Weekend Recap: Wrestling Super Duals at Elwood

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Mississinewa competed in the Elwood Super Duals on Saturday. In Round One the Indians defeated Speedway 63-3. Ole Miss continued the success through Rounds Two and Three beating Brebeuf (57-11) and Cristo Rey (60-15). The Indians lost in the Final Round to Greencastle 44-30.

MHS Girls Basketball . On Friday, the Lady Indians hosted CIC opponent Eastbrook at Mississinewa High School. Coach Tandy and the team won 62-38. Caily Bolser scored 28 points with 11 boards and 6 blocks in the win. Riley McKee scored 13 points for the Lady Indians. The junior varsity had a solo-game at Caston on Saturday and picked up a win 33-24.

MHS Boys Basketball . First year Coach James Reed and the Indians played their first contest at home on Saturday against Northwestern. The Indians lost 51-46. Tai McClung had 15 points in the game to lead scoring for Mississinewa. The junior varsity squad won 58-47 with three players scoring in double figures.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball will play at Blackford tonight at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Colts 6-0 this weekend. Indy is now 6-6 on the season. Andrew Luck threw for 248 yards with an interception. All scoring came from the Jaguars kicking.

NCAA Football . The final CFP Rankings are out and Alabama is at the top followed by Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated Texas on Saturday 39-27 in the Big12 Championship. Alabama took down Georgia in the SEC, and Clemson handled Pitt in the ACC. Despite UCF winning the AAC Championship and remaining perfect, they did not make the playoffs finishing with a CFP ranking at #8.

NBA . The Pacers lost to the Kings over the weekend 111-110. Indiana is back in action on Tuesday against Chicago at 7:00pm.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #1 Gonzaga won big over the weekend over Creighton 103-92. Kansas and Duke also reeled in wins. The Big10 featured #7 Michigan and #19 Purdue on Saturday. The Wolverines grabbed the win 76-57.

NHL . The big result in hockey on Sunday was the shootout win from Mark Scheifele and the Jets over the New York Rangers 4-3.

Soccer . Cross-town rivalries heated up in the EPL this weekend. Arsenal took Spurs 4-2, Chelsea shutout Fulham 2-0, and Liverpool edged Everton 1-0. Manchester City sits atop the table with 38 points and a 2 point edge over Liverpool. Across town, the Red Devils of United are struggling with only 14 points and a minus-one goal differential.

Golf . Jon Rahm won the Hero World Challenge this weekend at Albany. Rahm took home $1 million with a 4 stroke win over Tony Finau.

MHS Girls Basketball . The Lady Indians lost last night to the Bellmont Braves 53-44. Mississinewa had 21 turnovers on the evening. Ally Hewitt led the team with 14 points. Riley McKee added 13, and Caily Bolser added 10. The junior varsity team lost 44-19. Coach Tandy and the Lady Indians are back in action tonight against Southern Wells in a varsity-only contest at 6:00pm.

MHS Wrestling . The Indians were defeated in their first dual meet of the season by the Marion Giants 51-18. Kyler Funk, Charlie Brookshire, Andruw Cruz, and Courtland Smith earned individual wins on the mat. Brendan Robinson, Bradley Johnson, and Peyton Rose picked up wins for the junior squad. The Indians will be back in action on Thursday as they host Madison Grant.

MHS Boys Basketball . The C-Team traveled to Wabash to battle the Apaches last night. The team lost 35-33.

RJB Athletics . No results were provided from the junior high contests against the Eastbrook Panthers.

Tonight’s Events . The Lady Indians host the Southern Wells Raiders at 6:00pm tonight. This will be a varsity-only event. Coach Reed takes his squad to Ossian to challenge the Norwell Knights in The Castle for a 6:15pm start in the JV and C-Team contests. The varsity game will follow at approximately 7:30pm.

NFL . Houston took down Tennessee 34-17 in Monday Night Football. Indianapolis is at Jacksonville on Sunday in Week 13.

NCAA Football . #1 Alabama and #5 Georgia headline Week 14 in Atlanta. That game is on CBS at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 1st and could have major implications in the playoff rankings.

NBA . The Pacers defeated the Jazz 121-88 last night in Utah. Doug McDermott scored 21 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Indiana, at 12-8, faces a struggling Phoenix tonight on the road.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Gonzaga earned a #1 ranking this week with their defeat over Duke. The Blue Devils moved to third around the Kansas Jayhawks. Virginia, Nevada, and Michigan battle to round out the top five. The ACC-Big Ten Challenge heats up tonight with a showdown between Duke and Indiana at Cameron Indoor. Michigan State also faces Louisville. Those two games are both on ESPN.

NHL . The Maple Leafs, Capitals, Rangers, and Blue Jackets all took wins last night. New Jersey lost in overtime to the Panthers 4-3. Nashville and Tampa Bay sit atop the league standings with a 24-17 record.

Soccer . New Castle took a win in the only Premier League match on Monday. The Champions League will launch several matches today starting around noon locally. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Manchester United headline the big names competing today.

Golf . The PGA Tour continues for 2018-2019 with the Hero World Challenge starting Thursday. Last year’s winner was Rickie Fowler.

Funk Wrestles at Bankers, Indians Senior Night vs. Panthers

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Kyler Funk will wrestle at approximately 7:00pm Tonight at the State Finals in Banker’s Fieldhouse. TribeTV is not permitted to cover the event, but a live stream is provided at IHSAAtv.org. TribeTV will be on the mat sending photos and updates. There will be a send-off ceremony at 11:00am at Mississinewa High School for Kyler before he leaves for Indianapolis. Watch the send-off live on MCSC Athletics Facebook.

RJB Wrestling . The junior high team faced Elwood and Southern Wells last night. RJB defeated Southern Wells in the first event 46-30. Hurd, Alston, Galvan, Johnson, Spencer, and Ice won by pin. Hickman won in a major decision, and Bebout and Mobley won on a normal decision. RJB fell in the second round against Elwood 30-18. Galvan, Johnson, and Rose all got pins.

RJB Boys Basketball . The 6th grade team defeated Elwood 39-12 last night. Cox had 5 points, and six other Junior Indians scored 4 points.

RJB Girls Basketball . The 6th grade girls defeated Elwood 45-0. Sullivan scored 11 points.

Mississinewa High School Senior Honor Night for winter athletics is this tonight at approximately 7:00pm. The event will take place immediately after the Boys JV contest with Eastbrook. TribeTV will have live coverage of the entire evening on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube channel.

Military Night will take place on tonight. All veterans and active military personnel will receive free admission, and are asked to sign in upon arrival at any one of the main entrances. Those that attend will be honored between the JV and Varsity contests.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Boys Basketball take on Eastbrook in a CIC match-up. Freshman play at 5:00pm to kick off the night. Kyler Funk will wrestle in the first round of the state finals at Bankers in Indianapolis. The Parade of Champions starts at 5:45pm. Kyler is wrestling in the 182 class.

Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics .  The highlight of the day in the winter olympics was Ryan Donato netting two goals to help the United States get past Slovakia in hockey.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #6 Purdue was upset by Wisconsin last night 57-53. Ethan Happ scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Badgers in their biggest win of the season.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . #5 Notre Dame defeated Virginia 83-69, and Purdue upset #10 Maryland last night 75-65. Butler faces Providence tonight at 7:00pm.
