Wrestling falls to Alexandria

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . The Indians were on the road last night at CIC opponent Alexandria. The team lost 26-54.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Girls Basketball will travel to Yorktown tonight for a 6:00pm tip.

Upcoming Events . RJB Girls Basketball plays at Wabash on Thursday, and Wrestling will travel to Southern Wells. On Friday, MHS Boys Basketball will play Madison Grant on the road for a big CIC and county match-up. The Lady Indians have that same battle with the Argylls on Saturday at Mississinewa starting at 11:00am. The Lady Indians basketball game with Madison Grant will be live on MCSC Athletics YouTube.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers at 16-11 play the Thunder, 12-14 tonight at 7:00pm. Pacers fans can watch on ESPN.

NFL . The Colts will face the 4-9 Broncos on Thursday Night Football on NBC. Indianapolis is 3-10 on the season.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . On Saturday, Butler faces off against #17 Purdue at noon on Fox. Indiana will play #18 Notre Dame immediately following the Purdue game at approximately 2:30pm. Both games are part of the Crossroads Classic. Villanova took over the top spot in the country’s AP & USA Today rankings this week after Duke’s loss to Boston College. Michigan State, Wichita State, and Duke complete the top spots in both polls.

Erika Foy earns 1000 in tough weekend for Indians

MHS Girls Basketball . The Lady Indians hosted Oak Hill on Saturday. Erika Foy past the 1000 point mark during the game. She is only the fourth Lady Indian to surpass that mark in school history. Mississinewa came up short losing to the Golden Eagles 78-32. Foy had 12 points in the game. Tyler Bartel added 10 points to make up the bulk of the Lady Indians scoring. Bartel and Foy each had 4 rebounds while Ally Hewitt added 3 rebounds and 4 assists.

MHS Wrestling . The Indians competed in the Lapel Invitational on Saturday. The team went 0-5 on the day. Kyler Funk won the championship in his weight class.

Screen Shot 2017-12-11 at 8.18.51 AMMHS Boys Basketball . The Indians played three games at Oak Hill on Friday. The C-team lost 54-15, and the junior varsity won 38-34. Landen Swanner had 14 points and Payton Enser had 8. The varsity team was defeated Friday night 50-30 at Oak Hill. Jalen Martin and Thabit Gault scored 9 for the Indians.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball travels to McCulloch tonight for a 5:00pm start.


Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts battled in a blizzard against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and lost in overtime 13-7. Jacoby Brissett was 11-22 for 69 yards with 1 touchdown. Frank Gore had 36 carries for 130 yards, and Marlon Mack led the Colts in receiving with 2 receptions on 20 yards.

NBA . The Pacers defeated the Denver Nuggets 126-116 in overtime. Victor Oladipo had 47 points on 15-28 shooting with 6 assists in his 45 minutes of play.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #21 Purdue defeated IUPUI 86-61.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Purude lost to Ohio this weekend 77-71, and the Ball State Lady Cardinals improve to 9-0 as they defeat Oakland City 126-55.

Wrestling Grabs First Win, Hoops Preps for Oak Hill

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . The Mississinewa Indians hosted the Blackford Bruins last night and picked up their first win of the season 37-36. Gage Peterson, Hunter Ribble, John Hall, Jaheim Johnson, Kyler Funk, and Skylar Tackett all had individual wins for the Indians.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Boys Basketball faces off against Oak Hill in a CIC and county battle. The junior varsity and C-team will start at 6:00pm at Oak Hill High School followed by the varsity at approximately 7:30pm.

Saturday’s Events . MHS Girls Basketball hosts Oak Hill at 11:00am. This game will be live on the MCSC Athletics YouTube channel. MHS Wrestling is on the road to Lapel at 9:00am. Don’t forget that the RJB Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament has been cancelled and will not be played on Saturday.


Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Purdue defeated Valparaiso last night 80-50. This Saturday features several good match-ups in college basketball. Notre Dame plays Delaware, Butler faces Youngstown State, the Indiana Hoosiers play Louisville at 2:00pm on ESPN, Ball State plays Valparaiso, and the Duke Blue Devils face Boston College to remain at #1 in the nation at noon on ESPN.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State held onto their undefeated season with a win over Southeast Missouri State 69-56. The Lady Boilermakers will play Valparaiso tonight at 7:00pm. Butler will take on Wisconsin tonight at 7:00pm as well.

NBA . The Pacers play Lebron James and the Cavs tonight at 7:00pm. Indiana is 14-11 on the season.

Four Wins for Lady Indians Hoops

MHS Girls Basketball . The Lady Indians picked up two wins last night at Southwood. Erika Foy had 14 points and 15 rebounds in the 49-41 win over the Lady Knights. Tyler Bartel added 10 points, and Halle Planck scored 8 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. The junior varsity won 54-29.

RJB Girls Basketball . Braley Bushman scored 12 points to lead the 7th grade team over Elwood 54-6. The 8th grade also won 54-10 with Sophia Corey scoring 18 points.

Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Women’s Basketball . #3 Notre Dame defeated Michigan State last night 90-59. Ball State will try to move to 8-0 tonight as they take on Southeast Missouri State at 7:00pm on ESPN3.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #21 Purdue at 8-2 will play an undefeated Valparaiso team tonight at 6:30pm on Fox Sports One. Valparaiso faces Ball State this weekend after the Cardinals defeated #9 Notre Dame earlier this week.

NBA . The Pacers held on to a win last night over the Chicago Bulls 98-96. Victor Oladipo scored 27 points on 10-20 shooting.

Wrestling Struggles at Madison Grant

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . The season opener for Coach Funk and the high school wrestlers did not go well as they fell to Madison Grant 72-12. Kyler Funk and Gage Peterson were the only two individual winners for the Indians in Fairmount. The Indians are low on numbers this year and had to forfeit six matches.

Tonight’s Events . Girls Basketball will head to Upland to compete against Eastbrook for an early season CIC matchup at 6:00pm. On Saturday, Boys Basketball will play at Northwestern at 6:00pm. That game will be streamed live by TribeTV on MCSC Athletics YouTube. Don’t forget that the R.J. Baskett Holiday Tournaments for both the boys and girls have been cancelled along with the RJB Girls Basketball game at McCulloch on December 11.

Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The #3 Michigan State Spartans defeated #5 Notre Dame last night 81-63. Bonzie Colson had 17 points for the Irish with 6 rebounds. Cassius Winston provided 17 points for the Spartans. Purdue takes on Maryland tonight on the Big Ten Network at 7:00pm.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Purdue lost to Georgia Tech last night 68-55. The Lady Boilermakers are now 5-3. #4 Louisville defeated Indiana 72-54 in the second game of the night for the Big Ten/Acc Challenge.

NBA . The Pacers travel to Toronto tonight to take on the Raptors at 7:30pm. Indiana brings a 12-10 record and are 6-6 in away contests.

RJB Hoops Sweeps Alexandria

Tribe Sports Report

RJB Girls Basketball . The Lady Indians swept the Alexandria Tigers last night. The 7th grade team won 34-14 led by Mackenzie Austin’s 10 points. The 8th grade Lady Indians won 49-29 with a huge performance by Mia Catey scoring 25 points. The girls Holiday Tournament this Saturday has been cancelled along with the game at McCulloch on December 11.

RJB Boys Basketball . The boys also swept the Alexandria Tigers with two big wins. The 7th grade squad won 50-23. Donavin Betts scored 17 points. The 8th grade team defeated the Tigers 61-7. Dakota Ancil continued his good season with 23 points. The boys are on the road to Kokomo next Tuesday for a 6:00pm contest with the Wildcats. The team’s Holiday Tournament set for next Saturday has been cancelled.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Wrestling opens their season on the road at Madison Grant. The action on the mat begins at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The game of the night was Duke traveling to Bloomington to take on Indiana. Duke defeated Indiana 91-81, pulling away in the final 5 minutes of play. The Hoosiers led several times throughout the game, and showed great progress developing in the Archie Miller system. There were over 20 ties throughout the contest. Missed free throws and turnovers plagued the Hoosiers down the stretch and allowed Duke to take control. Marvin Bagley scored 23 points for the Blue Devils, but Duke was led by their captain Grayson Allen in the final few minutes. IU was led in scoring by Robert Johnson’s 17 points. #5 Notre Dame takes on #3 Michigan State tonight at 7:00pm on ESPN.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . #3 Notre Dame defeated #22 Michigan last night 83-63 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Ball State also won 87-75 against Butler. Purdue and Georgia Tech face off tonight at 7:00pm on the ACC Network. The Lady Hoosiers battle #4 Louisville at 8:00pm on the Big Ten Network.

NBA . The Indiana Pacers lost to the Houston Rockets 118-97. James Harden led all scorers with 29 points. Thaddeus Young topped the Pacers list with 23 points.

Extended Weekend Events

Mississinewa Community Schools will enjoy a four day weekend due to scheduled snow make-up days. Here are the events over the break.

  • Thursday, February 16
    • RJB Wrestling travels to Southern Wells for a 5:30pm meet.
    • RJB 6th Grade Girls Basketball hosts Wabash, tip at 6:00pm.
  • Friday, February 17
    • Boys Basketball visits CIC/County rival Eastbrook for a 9th/JV/Varsity event starting at 5:00pm.
  • Saturday, February 18
