Funk Wrestles at Bankers, Indians Senior Night vs. Panthers

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Kyler Funk will wrestle at approximately 7:00pm Tonight at the State Finals in Banker’s Fieldhouse. TribeTV is not permitted to cover the event, but a live stream is provided at IHSAAtv.org. TribeTV will be on the mat sending photos and updates. There will be a send-off ceremony at 11:00am at Mississinewa High School for Kyler before he leaves for Indianapolis. Watch the send-off live on MCSC Athletics Facebook.

RJB Wrestling . The junior high team faced Elwood and Southern Wells last night. RJB defeated Southern Wells in the first event 46-30. Hurd, Alston, Galvan, Johnson, Spencer, and Ice won by pin. Hickman won in a major decision, and Bebout and Mobley won on a normal decision. RJB fell in the second round against Elwood 30-18. Galvan, Johnson, and Rose all got pins.

RJB Boys Basketball . The 6th grade team defeated Elwood 39-12 last night. Cox had 5 points, and six other Junior Indians scored 4 points.

RJB Girls Basketball . The 6th grade girls defeated Elwood 45-0. Sullivan scored 11 points.

Mississinewa High School Senior Honor Night for winter athletics is this tonight at approximately 7:00pm. The event will take place immediately after the Boys JV contest with Eastbrook. TribeTV will have live coverage of the entire evening on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube channel.

Military Night will take place on tonight. All veterans and active military personnel will receive free admission, and are asked to sign in upon arrival at any one of the main entrances. Those that attend will be honored between the JV and Varsity contests.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Boys Basketball take on Eastbrook in a CIC match-up. Freshman play at 5:00pm to kick off the night. Kyler Funk will wrestle in the first round of the state finals at Bankers in Indianapolis. The Parade of Champions starts at 5:45pm. Kyler is wrestling in the 182 class.


Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics .  The highlight of the day in the winter olympics was Ryan Donato netting two goals to help the United States get past Slovakia in hockey.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #6 Purdue was upset by Wisconsin last night 57-53. Ethan Happ scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Badgers in their biggest win of the season.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . #5 Notre Dame defeated Virginia 83-69, and Purdue upset #10 Maryland last night 75-65. Butler faces Providence tonight at 7:00pm.

Indians Prep for Big Friday Night

Mississinewa High School Senior Honor Night for winter athletics is this Friday, April 16 at approximately 7:00pm. The event will take place immediately after the Boys JV contest with Eastbrook. TribeTV will have live coverage of the entire evening on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube channel.

Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics .  Mikaela Shiffrin took gold last night in the Super Slalom. That medal is the 5th gold for the United States.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The Purdue Boilermakers face Wisconsin tonight at 7:00pm on ESPN. Purdue looks to defend it’s strong season and #6 ranking.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . #10 Maryland will challenge the Lady Boilers tonight at 6:00pm. That game can be seen on the Big Ten Network. #5 Notre Dame faces Virginia at 7:00pm on the ACC Network.

Funk to wrestle Girgenti at 182

MHS Wrestling . Kyler Funk will wrestle in the IHSAA State Finals at Banker’s Fieldhouse this weekend. He placed fourth at the Ft. Wayne Semi-State on Saturday. Kyler has been placed in the upper bracket of the 182 class and has drawn Cade Girgenti of Chesterton (35-1) in the first round. Funk is 30-9 on the year.

MHS Boys Basketball . Thabit Gault had 17 points and 16 rebounds in an Indian loss to Frankton on Friday. Landen Swanner added 10 points as the Indians lost 71-56 to give Frankton the control in the Central Indiana Conference. The JV team also lost 45-43. Colin Yoder had 14 points for the JV team.

Tonight’s Events . 6th Boys Basketball travels to East Jay for a 5:30pm tip while the 6th grade girls host East Jay at 6:00pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics .  The United States has two golds, a silver, and a bronze as of Monday morning. Norway leads the medal count with nine. The big story so far, is Mirai Nagasu becoming the first American woman to land a triple axel in the olympics in the women’s free-skate competition.

NBA . The Pacers defeated the New York Knicks last night 121-113. Victor Oladipo scored 30 points on 10 of 24 shooting with 9 assists.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Notre Dame faces #21 North Carolina tonight at 7:00pm on ESPN. The Fighting Irish are 15-10 on the season.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Butler was defeated by Marquette yesterday 78-59. #5 Notre Dame defeated Georgia Tech 85-69. The Lady Hoosiers take on Purdue tonight at 7:00pm.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Saint Francis 86-82 on Saturday. The Wildcats travel to Mount Vernon on Tuesday. Taylor hosted Goshen this weekend and won 96-94. The Trojans host Huntington on Tuesday at 7:00pm.

NAIA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Wildcats defeated Saint Francis this weekend 61-52. They face Mount Vernon on Wednesday. Taylor won big over Goshen 78-47 heading into another home game on Wednesday with Huntington.

Just a reminder that Coach Arbogast and the MHS Track and Field team will be holding a call-out meeting today at 2:40pm in the Pit at MHS. See Coach Arbogast with any questions.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Boys Basketball will travel the five miles to Marion High School to battle the Giants tonight at 6:30pm in Bill Green Arena. TribeTV will provide live coverage on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube with Dalton Bishop on the call. RJB Wrestling is cancelled for tonight. RJB Girls Basketball will play Kokomo at Maple Crest tonight at 6:00pm. 6th grade Girls Basketball host Southwood in the final event for tonight at 6:00pm.

NBA . The Pacers fell to the Wizards last night 111-102. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 29 points in the loss.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Indiana handled business last night against Rutgers 65-43. Juwan Morgan scored 24 points on 10 of 14 shooting. The Butler Bulldogs face #5 Xavier tonight at 6:30pm on Fox Sports One. Ball State is the favorite tonight against Bowling Green. Both teams are 14-9 for the 7:00pm contest which can be seen on ESPN3. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish face Boston College tonight at 8:00pm on ESPN3.

Funk advances, Indians win, and RJB claims titles

Just a reminder that Coach Arbogast and the MHS Track and Field team will be holding a call-out meeting on Tuesday, February 6 at 2:40pm in the Pit at MHS. See Coach Arbogast with any questions.

MHS Wrestling. Courtland Scott and Skylar Tackett wrestled well at the Peru Regional on Saturday, but will not advance with Kyler Funk. Kyler placed third and will represent Mississinewa this upcoming weekend in the Ft. Wayne Semi-State. The mat opens at 9:00am on Saturday at the Ft. Wayne Coliseum. Good luck Kyler and Coach Funk.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Junior Varsity team defeated Delta on Saturday 55-47 to move to 13-3 on the season. Collin Yoder led the way with 15 points. Coach Evertts and the Indians finished the afternoon by completing the sweep of the Eagles, winning 56-45. The Indians have now won six in a row. Thabit Gault led the Indians with 21 points. Freshman Landon Swanner scored 13 points. Mississinewa faces Marion at Bill Green Arena on Tuesday. Fans can catch the action on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube provided by TribeTV.

DVJnu_sVQAEGe4QRJB Boys Basketball . The Junior Indians brought home two titles on Saturday from the Maconaquah Tournament. The 7th grade team started the day with a championship followed by a great performance by Dakota Ancil (30 points, 12 rebounds) to lead the 8th grade squad to a second title on the day.

DVIP_O9VoAA1limRJB Girls Basketball . The 7th grade Girls Basketball team earned their first CIC title in school history by defeating Alexandria 19-12. Lia Luchetti had 9 points to lead the young Lady Indians. Congratulations to Coach Kimes and the team for setting this historical mark for R.J. Baskett Middle School.

DVJoAiXVoAAEvsyTonight’s Events . RJB 6th grade Boys Basketball will travel to Oak Hill at 6:00pm to battle the Eagles. This game will be played at Swayzee.


Today’s Sports World Update

r323844_608x342_16-9NFL . The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 52 over the New England Patriots 41-33. Nick Foles was crowned the MVP after going 28-43 for 373 yards with 3 touchdowns. Tom Brady had 505 yards in the Patriots loss as a couple late drives were halted by the Eagles defense.

NBA . The Indiana Pacers play tonight against the Wizards at 7:00pm. Both teams are having a similar season at 30 wins each.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The Indiana Hoosiers face Rutgers tonight at 7:00pm. The 12-12 Hoosiers can be watched on the Big Ten Network.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Hoosiers defeated Northwestern in overtime 78-73 over the weekend. Purdue defeated Illinois 73-54, Butler lost to Seton Hall 75-64, and #5 Notre Dame beat a tough Duke team ranked at #19, 72-54 to round out local women’s college basketball.

NAIA Basketball . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Huntington 100-73 on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats game with Huntington was a little bit closer but IWU won 67-64. Taylor University won 93-73 over Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Lady Trojans won big as well, defeating Mount Vernon 90-53. Taylor faces the Wildcats on Tuesday as the Lady Trojans will travel to Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 7:00pm tip in each competition.
