Football Win Big, Cross Country Advance Two, and Volleyball Battles

Tribe Sports Report

Indians Football closed out the regular season with a CIC victory at Alexandria 69-20. Cade McCoin had four touchdown passes. Heisman Skeens (3), Cade Campbell (2), Jay Jones, and Chris Pavey rounded out the scoring for the Indians. Mississinewa plays Frankfort on the road in the first round of sectionals this Friday at 7:00pm. The winner of that game will play either Marion or Delta, and could be a chance for the Indians to play again at Fisher Field early in the tournament.

Lady Indians Volleyball ended the season in the second round of sectional action on Saturday against Heritage in three straight sets.

Cross Country will send two runners to the Semi State event in Ft. Wayne this upcoming weekend. Brennan Butche won the boys race at 15:26.3. He will travel north with Aurora Fisher who battled back this season to advance with a great performance on Saturday.

Congratulations Mississinewa Boys Tennis, Isaac Torres for being selected to participate in the Indiana Senior All-Star Classic on November 4th at DePauw University. Torres was also recognized as an All-District honoree along with the doubles pair of Seth Graves and Chandler Morrison.

R.J. Baskett Boys Basketball try-outs begin October 24th. Girls Basketball try-outs begin November 6. See the R.J. Baskett Front Office for more information.

Registration is open for the Ole Miss Youth Sports basketball season. Check them out on Facebook for registration links.

Professional Sports Update

The Yankees return to New York down 2-0 to the Houston Astros after two huge battles this past weekend in the American League Championship Series (ALCS). Game time tonight is 8:00pm (FS1) with Morton facing off against Sabathia on the mound.

The Chicago Cubs will return to Wrigley in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) with a 2-0 deficit to overcome as Justin Turner launched a walk-off, three-run blast in the bottom of the 9th inning last night to give the Dodgers the advantage. Darvish will take on Hendricks on Tuesday at 9:00pm (TBS).

The Tennessee Titans host the Indianapolis Colts for Monday Night Football (NFL) at 8:30pm (ESPN). Both teams enter the game with a 2-3 record.

On Wednesday the Indiana Pacers will host Brooklyn at 7:00pm. (NBA)

Tribe Sports Report

The Tribe Sports Daily Show on MCSC Athletics YouTube channel will be live at 10:00am the rest of this week and then move to 1:00pm next Monday. Tune in for a live report of all Mississinewa athletics events and the professional sports update.


JV Football was the only event last night. The Indians hosted Frankton. MCSC Athletics is still waiting on the results of that game.


Mississinewa will host Sectional 23 for IHSAA Volleyball starting Thursday. The entire tournament can be watched live on TribeTV (listings below) as well as MCSC Athletics YouTube. Bishop-Luers and Norwell open up play on Thursday at 6:00pm followed by Marion and Bellmont. The Lady Indians play Saturday against Heritage at approximately 11:30am. Doors open, for all sessions, one hour before first serve.  Tournament Weekend Passes are $10 each and Session Passes cost $6. Fans are asked to enter either doors 10 or 14.

    • Minnesota defeated Chicago at Soldier Field for Monday Night Football 20-17. Case Keenum went 17-21 with 140 yards for the Vikings.
  • MLB
    • Houston ended the season for the Boston Red Sox yesterday in a 5-4 win. They await the winner of the Yankees and Indians on Friday.
    • The Yankees tied the series last night with Cleveland 7-3 and will play on Wednesday in a Game 5 situation.
    • The Chicago Cubs went up 2-1 in their series with the Washington Nationals yesterday with a 2-1 win late in the game off a Rizzo single, and overcame a great performance by Max Scherzer.
    • Los Angelas clinched their series against Arizona late last night in a 3-1 win, and now await the winner of the Cubs and Nationals.
  • NBA
    • The Indiana Pacers lost 107-97 to the Detroit Pistons last night. Damien Wilkins led the Pacers with 14 points.
  • NHL
    • In Hockey, Colorado beat Boston 4-0, St. Louis won 3-2 over the Islanders, New Jersey defeated Buffalo 6-2…Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Winnipeg were also winners.

Tribe Sports Report

Mississinewa Football will look to close out the CIC and regular season this Friday at Alexandria after rolling past Frankton this weekend 69-0 at Fisher Field. The Indians are now 6-2 (4-2 CIC) on the season. Heisman Skeens, cade Campbell, and Cade McCoin were very active on the offensive side of the ball, but a huge story was laid when Dustin Patton scored his first touchdown of his career and Jay Jones completed a 73 yard touchdown while being left wide open. The defense held their opponent scoreless for the third straight game. If Mississinewa wins the opening round they could play at home again in the sectional Semifinals against either Delta or Marion.

Girls Soccer battled Western in the IHSAA Sectional Championship on Saturday at Marion High School. Beth Lucas scored the lone goal for the Lady Indians as Mississinewa came up short to the Panthers in a 3-1 loss.


Lady Indians Volleyball are the 2017 Grant Four Champions after defeating Madison Grant (26-24, 27-25, 20-25, 23-25, 15-8) in the morning session, and then overcoming the hosts Oak Hill in the championship match (19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20). Erika Foy had 36 kills and 14 digs on the day. Kirsten Lockwood had 27 kills and 5 blocks. Emily Taylor recorded 17 digs.

Indians Cross Country had several success stories at the Indiana Wesleyan IHSAA Sectional on Saturday. As a team the boys finished 6th place. Brennan Butche was the Sectional Champion at 16:17.1 and will advance to Regionals along side Jon Tucker. The girls placed 5th and will advance as a team to Regionals. Carli Fones was the top finisher at 22:09 for the Lady Indians.

NBA

  • The Pacers, who are 2-0, travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons tonight at 7:00pm.

NFL

  • The Colts defeated the 49ers on Sunday 26-23 to move to 2-3 on the season. Peyton Manning was honored during the game.
  • Minnesota will play Chicago at Soldier Field for Monday Night Football at 8:30pm on ESPN.

MLB

  • Boston took game 3 against the Astros on Sunday to cut into Houston’s lead at 2-1 with a big 10-3 win.
  • New York won 1-0 last night over Cleveland. The Indians are still up 2-1.
  • The Nationals evened up the series with the Cubs on Saturday with a 6-3 win.
  • Los Angelas is now up 2-0 on Arizona after winning 8-5 on Saturday.
  • All series continue today, Houston-Boston at 1:00pm, Chicago-Washington at 4:00pm, New York-Cleveland at 7:00pm, and Los Angelas-Arizona at 10:00pm.

Tribe Sports Report

Boys Tennis duo of Seth Graves and Chandler Morrison lost last night 6-2, 6-2 to a very solid Alexandria pair in the IHSAA Individual Doubles Sectional title match at Marion High School. Morrison will be a Junior next year for the Indians as Graves will graduate as part of back-to-back CIC champion teams.


Lady Indians Soccer opened up an IHSAA Sectional run last night at Marion High School with a win over Maconaquah 5-0. That win places the girls in the title match on Saturday at 7:00pm against Western.


Lady Indians Volleyball defeat Frankton in straight sets at both JV & Varsity levels. Varisty sets went 25-22, 25-23, and 25-14.

RJB Volleyball 7th and 8th grade teams defeat Oak Hill at home. RJB Tennis Girls won 4-1 over Lapel, and the RJB Boys Tennis team won 3-2 to finish the season undefeated. Tennis winners included John Oliver, Hayden Rowley, Riley Fuqua & Evan Stanley, Madison Fuqua, Ella Frantz, Sophia Morrison, and Brayley Bushman & Taylor Kern.

Lady Indians Fall to Pendelton

Lady Indians Volleyball experienced some late-season struggles as they fell last night to Pendelton Heights 4-1. The junior varsity had a little better luck with a 2-1 win. The Lady Indians finish out CIC action on Thursday against Frankton on the road. The IHSAA Sectional 23 agenda was released yesterday, and the Lady Indians, who drew Heritage, will play on Saturday, October 14 at 11:30am at Mississinewa High School. If the team should advance to the championship, that game time is 4:00pm on the same day.


There was no report from R.J. Baskett on the results of the football and volleyball contests.


Ole Miss Youth Sports would like to invite everyone out to the Pigskin Classic to watch our 6th Grade Football team play this Saturday, October 7th at Mississinewa High School. Kick-off for the first game is at 12:30pm. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children above 5 years of age.

JV Football Rolls Past Eagles, Lady Indians Draw Heritage

As the varsity Indians had the night off, the youth at Mississinewa competed in a few events. JV Football cruised to a victory over the Oak Hill Eagles 50-0, but the Freshman C-Team lost a close one 10-8.


Mississinewa Volleyball found out their fate for the IHSAA Sectional 23 in which they will host. The Lady Indians drew Heritage in the second round, and a win would mean an automatic pass to the championship. Fans of all teams can watch the entire sectional live on TribeTV and MCSC Athletics YouTube.

Indians Hunt Down CIC Victory, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Girls Soccer Success

Indians Football traveled to Oak Hill on Friday to battle the Eagles in a CIC match-up. Mississinewa won 60-0 in a game where the Indians totaled over 600 all-purpose yards. Heisman Skeens scored five touchdowns for the Indians helping the team overcome 13 penalties throughout the game, which was a minor hiccup for the victory. The “Cade’s” continued to have great performances as Campbell and McCoin both added huge offensive contributions. The Indians drew Frankfort (0-7), in the IHSAA opening round of sectional. Frankfort will host that game on October 20th.


Volleyball fought off the Eastern Comets to win 3-2. The junior varsity squad also won 2-0. Varsity sets were 25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-10, 15-11. Halle Planck rallied 14 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 aces for the Indians. Erika Foy had 13 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks, and an ace. Kenzie Skeens accumulated 41 assists and Madison Stanley added 12 digs.


Cross Country had a great performance at Indiana Wesleyan in the CIC races this weekend. The big story was Brennan Butche repeating as CIC Boys Champion with a time of 15:55.8. Johnathan Tucker and Jacob Ehmer also earned All-Conference along with Carli Fones who placed 8th in the girls race (21:12.1).


Girls Soccer picked up a late goal by Beth Lucas to defeat Taylor 1-0. The girls prepare for Sectionals this week against Maconaquah in the opening round of play.


RJB Tennis Boys and Girls both defeated Manchester and the RJB 7th Grade Volleyball team won the 2017 CIC Championship.

Volleyball Owns Senior Night, Boys Tennis at Sectionals Tonight

Mississinewa Volleyball rolled past the Blackford Bruins last night in five straight sets between the junior varsity and varsity contests. The varsity sets were 25-11, 25-9, and 25-10. The Lady Indians also honored the team’s Seniors before the varsity match (featured image). This was another Central Indiana Conference win for volleyball.

Boys Tennis battled #15 Cathedral last night at Yorktown High School in final preparation for sectionals against Marion tonight. The Indians lost 4-1 with Paxton Sample coming away with the only win at 3 Singles (6-4, 6-1). Ethan Miller also won his JV Tennis match 6-4, 6-2.


R.J. Baskett Athletics had several teams in action last night. The Cross Country team ran well at their invitational, and the boys and girls tennis teams both won 4-1. The 7th grade football team defeated Madison Grant 44-20, and the 8th grade also won 46-0 over the Argylls. RJB 6th grade volleyball lost in straight sets to Frankton.

Volleyball Captures Title and Football with Huge Win, Weekend Recap

Indians Football bounced back in a huge game against CIC opponent Madison Grant on Friday evening at Fisher Field. The Indians won 69-0 with an offensive total of 524 yards. Cade Campbell launched the Indians into the lead by running the opening kick-off back for a touchdown, later adding on another of his own. Senior Cade McCoin ran in two touchdowns himself and completed connections for three passing touchdowns to Andrew Cruz, Hunter Smalley, and Heisman Skeens. Skeens would add another rushing touchdown later in the game. Senior Devon Dill and Freshman Tai McClung added rushing TD’s for the Indian attack. Andre Salade kicked six PAT’s for the Indians. The Argylls were held to 36 yards with Chris Pavey getting a sack and Dustin Patton leading the team in tackles. The Indians travel to Oak Hill this week for another CIC, county match-up.


Cross Country ran Saturday at the New Haven Invitational. Carli Fones finished first for the girls in 35th place overall (22:34.29) followed by Mary Zerbe at 78th (24:45.81). Brennan Butche finished 2nd in the AAA High School Boys race at 15:50.22. Jon Tucker led the Indians in the Class AA race finishing 27th (18:21.69). Other top 100 finishers were Jakob Ehmer, Zak Huffman, Tony Parish, and Raven Fisher. The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will compete at Indiana Wesleyan University this Saturday for the CIC Invitational starting at 10:00am.


Mississinewa Football’s C-Team defeated Madison Grant on Saturday 48-0.

Soccer & Tennis Meet Tough Opponents

Boys Soccer fought for a road-win last night at North Miami. It was the last away match of the season for the Indians that ended in a 10-0 loss. The boys and girls host Eastbrook on Monday for Senior Honor Night with the Lady Indians kicking off the evening at 6:00pm. Senior Honors will be given between games.


Ole Miss Boys Tennis continued their tough schedule at state-ranked #7 Avon last night. Paxton Sample fought into a third set tie-break but could not get the Indians a point, and the team fell 5-0 to the Orioles. Mississinewa is 12-5 with Senior Honor Night on Monday against Burris.


RJB Boys and Girls Tennis swept the Eastern Comets in straight sets 5-0, 5-0. RJB Volleyball 7th Grade defeated Blackford in straight sets 2-0. At this time there was no 8th grade result reported.
