Fisher breaks school record, Goble goes yard, Thien 1-hitter in 31-0 over Lady Knights

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Track & Field . Boys Track defeated Frankton and Blackford 79-42-36 in that order at Wednesday’s CIC showdown. The boys won three relays. Cory Quakenbush won the 400 and high jump, Andre Salade won the 100, and Brennan Butche took the 1600 and 3200. Heisman Skeens won the long jump.

The Lady Indians finished in the middle of Frankton and Blackford 62-49.5-35.5 in that order. Aurora Fisher broke the school record in the 3200 at 12:28. Haleigh Skeens captured the long jump and 100m. Beth Lucas won the 100 high hurdles. The girls 4×100 also took first place at last night’s meet.

MHS Boys Golf . Shady Hills was a mess, but the Indians defeated Frankton last night 172-210. Josh Dakin shot a 38 to lead the Indians with Breyton Berryhill making a 42.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians took down CIC opponent Elwood 5-0 on the road last night. All three singles did not lose a game to the Panthers. The JV team also won 6-2. Rileigh Zirkle and Alexis Tignor won their JV singles matches then paired up to win a doubles match. Coach Fleming and the Lady Indians face Wabash on Friday before hosting Manchester Saturday morning.

MHS Softball . Softball was on the road facing Kokomo Taylor last night and lost in 9 innings to the Titans 5-4. Jenna Berryhill gave up 8 hits with 7 strikeouts in her pitching battle. Shelby Goble hit a home run with 3 RBIs. Riley McKee and Darcie Patton added doubles to the stat-line.

The JV Lady Indians stayed home to romp Southwood 31-0 in 5 innings. Ireland Thien threw a complete game allowing only one hit with 13 strikeouts and 2 walks on the mound. Herring, Sands, Moore, and Smalley rocked the Southwood Lady Knights at the plate to provide the bulk of the Mississinewa JV action.

MHS Baseball . The JV Indians won last night 7-5 over the Frankton Eagles to pick up their first win of the season.

RJB Track & Field . The Boys track team lost to Frankton and defeated Alexandria 72-52-17. Peyton McPeak won the 110 hurdles and the 200m, Lucas Asbury won the shot put, and Seth Workman won the high jump and long jump. The boys 4×100 relay also took first.

Tonight’s Events . Baseball and Softball host Madison Grant tonight at 5:00pm. The JV Lady Indians will play the Argylls at approximately 6:00pm. Boys Golf travels to Wabash for a 5:00pm tee time. For the Junior Indians at R.J. Baskett, RJB Softball will take Madison Grant at 5:30pm in the park. RJB Soccer faces King’s Academy at Ballard Field for a 6:00pm kickoff. At Mississinewa High School, RJB Track & Field will host Oak Hill at 4:30pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers lost last night in Game Two of the NBA Playoffs to the Cleveland Cavaliers 100-97. Victor Oladipo scored 22 points to lead Indiana while Lebron James dropped 46 points to barely carry the Cavs to victory. The series is tied 1-1. Game Three is Friday on ESPN.

PGA Tour . The Valero Texas Open kicks off today in San Antonio. Last year’s winner was Kevin Chappell. This year’s purse is $6.2 million.

NASCAR . The Monster Cup Energy Series sets it’s sights on the Richmond International Raceway. Racing begins this Saturday, April 21st at 6:30pm on Fox.

MLB . The Cincinnati Reds fired Bryan Price after a 3-15 start to his fifth season with the club. Here are the latest scores from the midwest in Major League Baseball…

In Case You Missed It, End of Week Recap

IMG_1360MHS Track & Field . On Thursday, the Indians took on Wabash. The girls won 64-55, and the boys lost 62-51. Alayna Webb won the long jump, Beth Lucas took the 100 hurdles, Carli Fones won the 100m and 200m, Aurora Fisher placed first in the 1600m and 3200m, and Abby Oliver won the 300 hurdles. The girls also took the 4×100 event. The event winners for the boys included Heisman Skeens in the long jump, Tabias Meed in the 100m, and Cory Quakenbush took the 400m and 200m. The boys also placed first in the 4x100m.

MHS Boys Golf . The Indians hit the links on Thursday against the Raiders of Southern Wells. Mississinewa won 161-197. Josh Dakin shot a 37 to lead the way. Breyton Berryhill (39) and Ty Corey (40) shot ahead of the top Raider at 43. Justin Dakin shot a 45 in the JV round.

MHS Baseball . Saturday’s games were cancelled at both the JV and Varsity levels, but on Friday Mississinewa defeated Southwood 24-0 after struggling the previous couple games to keep a balanced attack. Hunter Smalley got the win on the mound with Landon Swanner making his first varsity appearance. Cade McCoin hit 3 homeruns against Southwood including a grand slam that tallied 10 RBI’s for the Senior slugger. Easton Burton hit 2 home runs one of which was also a grand slam bringing in 5 RBI’s.

A few changes have occured with the JV schedule including the April 18th game against Southwood being switched to a Frankton opponent. That game will start at 5:30pm. Also, the May 7th contest against Marion will now start at 5:00pm.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians lost to Bellmont on Friday 4-3 as the Braves scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to steal the win. Cierra Vasquez pitched in the loss all 9 hits and a walk. Darcie Patton went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Monday’s Events . MHS Baseball will take on Maconaquah on Monday at 5:00pm for the only event for the high school. RJB Baseball hosts Kokomo and RJB Softball travels to Peru. RJB Golf tees off against Eastern at Chippendale at 5:00pm. RJB Soccer hosts Kokomo at 6:00pm at the high school.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers fire up for the playoffs that begin on Sunday. Indiana faces Cleveland. The game can be watched on ABC at 3:30pm this Sunday.

NASCAR . Kyle Busch took the pole for this Sunday’s NASCAR Monster Energy Cup event at Bristol Motor Speedway. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Fox.

PGA Tour . The RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina is underway this weekend. Bryson DeChambeau is the current leader at -10 shooting a 68 and 64 through the first two rounds.

Tennis, Softball, and Track heat up the evening

30581615_1567275366675167_1359796000575471318_nMHS Track & Field . The boys and girls brought home big wins against CIC opponents last night. Aurora Fisher set a school record in the 3200m in a time of 12:40.5.

The boys won 85-36-33 over Madison Grant and Elwood in that order. Cory Quakenbush won the long jump and 400m. Tabias Mead won the 100m. Jacob Ehmer won the 1600m and 800m. Heisman Skeens took first in the 200m. The 4×800, 4×100, and 4×400 relay teams all took home first.

The girls defeated Elwood and Madison Grant 81-63-10. Alayna Webb took the long jump, Beth Lucas won both the hurdles events at 100 and 300m. Carlie Fones dominated the sprints at 100m and 200m. Aurora Fisher was the distance champion in the 1600m and set a new school record in the 3200m. The girls relays brought home first place finishes in the 4×800 and 4×100.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians defeated Wabash 6-0 under a great performance from Jenna Berryhill allowing only 3 hits and 4 walks. Berryhill had 10 strikeouts. Riley McKee went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Mallory Sands went 2 of 3, and Shelby Goble had a big triple with 3 RBIs.

MHS Girls Tennis . The rackets were on fire again as the Lady Indians defeated Bluffton 5-0 last night. The team didn’t give up a single set to the Tigers. The JV also won 4-0. Coach Fleming and the girls are now 2-1 heading into a contest at Wabash next Tuesday.

MHS Baseball . The Indians traveled to Norwell last night and lost to a very tough Knights squad 8-1. Cade McCoin took the loss on the mound allowing 4 runs on a hit and 5 walks. Tyler Jakob was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, Trey Jones was 1 of 3 with a double, and Colin Yoder scored off a walk.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Softball travels to Wes-Del at 5:00pm while the RJB Softball Junior Indians head to Oak Hill for a 6:15pm first pitch.

NBA . The Hornets defeated the Pacers in their final regular season game 119-93. Glenn Robinson III led Indiana with 13 points.
