Girls Tennis CIC Title, Conference Track at Oak Hill, and Boys Golf Wins

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Boys Golf . Coach Reed and Indians Golf picked up a win last night against Taylor 170-214 to move to 8-0 on the season.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians are CIC champions for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons. Mississinewa defeated Frankton last night 5-0 on Senior Night to move to 12-2 on the season and undefeated in the conference. Four of the matches were won 6-0, 6-0 and only 3 games were dropped in the entire team match.

MHS Track & Field . The girls and boys teams both placed 3rd last night at Oak Hill for the 2018 Central Indiana Conference Meet. The Indians did capture 4 conference titles including Brennan Butche in the 3200, Carli Fones in the 100m and 200m, and Beth Lucas setting a school record in the 300m hurdles at 47.82. The Boys 4x100m relay set a school record at 44.49. That team included Heisman Skeens, Kaden Cole, Elijah Standridge, and Tabias Mead.

There was no result reported for the RJB Softball game at Cowan.

Tonight’s Events . Baseball takes on Alexandria on the road as the JV team hosts Tipton at 5:00pm. Softball also travels to Alexandria at 5:00pm to face the Tigers with the JV game to follow. RJB Softball will play at Highland, RJB Baseball travels to Frankton, and RJB Golf will face Oak Hill at Shady Hills.

Friday’s Events . The Lady Indians Softball team will take on Northwestern at 5:00pm on the road for the only event this Friday.

Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . Boston clinched their series last night with a 114-112 win over Philadelphia. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 25 points. The NBA Playoffs resume on Sunday when Cleveland and Boston meet in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

PGA Tour . The first round of the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass is underway in Florida. The entire field will have teed off by 2:30pm today after an early morning mark of -3 under being set.

NHL . Winnipeg is in Nashville tonight for Game 7 of their series as Washington and Tampa Bay look to kick-off their series in Game 1 tomorrow.

MLB . Here are the latest scores from the midwest in Major League Baseball…

Girls Tennis wins Invite, Butche at the IndyStar Sports Awards, and a Big Grant 4 Weekend

Screen Shot 2018-04-30 at 7.57.20 AMMHS Track & Field . The Lady Indians finished third on Friday, as Oak Hill won the Girls Grant Four Track title this year. Carli Fones dominated the Grant County sprints. She set or tied a school record in the 100m (12.6) and the 400m (1:02.21) while also tacking on a victory in the 200m.

Boys Track and Field finished third at Friday’s Grant Four meet with 41 points behind Eastbrook (winner) and Oak Hill.

MHS Girls Tennis . Saturday’s Homestead Invitational title was captured by the Lady Indians and Coach Fleming in a tough 8-team field. Mississinewa beat #21 Homestead by one point, and Lafayette Harrison by only three to claim the championship. Haleigh Rowley won the 1-Singles championship and Tyra Stanley won the 2-Singles title. Heidi Rowley was runner-up at 2-Singles. Abigail Tignor and Maggie Herring won the consolation bracket playing at the 2-Doubles line. The Lady Indians host Alexandria on Tuesday at 5:00pm that could determine the conference championship.

PNG image-405CA7032F55-1MHS Cross Country . Brennan Butche was recognized by the IndyStar Sports Awards as a nominee for Cross Country Boys Runner of the Year this past weekend.

MHS Boys Golf . On Saturday, Mississinewa finished third at the Taylor Invitational with a team total of 372. Bryce Luedtke shot a team low of 88 followed by Breyton Berryhill at 89.

MHS Baseball . The Indians lost 11-2 to the Oak Hill Eagles in the title game of the 2018 Grant Four on Saturday. Cade Campbell, Cade McCoin, and Andruw Cruz were 1-3 at the plate. Cade McCoin hit a home run with 2 RBIs. Hunter Smalley and Seth Maddox split the duties on the mound. Smalley took the loss on 4.2 innings pitched with 7 hits and 2 walks. Mississinewa defeated Madison Grant in the morning session 8-5 after a 6-run second inning. Tyler Jakob was 3-4, Easton Burton added 3 RBIs, and Jalen Martin hit a home run. Owen Felver earned the win with 11 strikeouts after 6 innings pitched. Maddox also pitched in this win.

MHS Softball . Mississinewa lost in the championship game of the Grant Four on Saturday to Madison Grant 6-1. Cierra Vasquez pitched the title game allowing 6 hits and 5 walks with a strikeout. Shelby Goble went 2-4, and Darcie Patton was 1-3 with a home run. Earlier in the day the Lady Indians defeated Eastbrook 15-7. Jenna Berryhill earned that win allowing 2 runs while striking out 5. Lexi Cruzan stood out at the plate in game one going 2-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs.

Schedule Updates . The Varsity Softball double-header at Ft. Wayne Snider will be played on Saturday, May 5th at 9:00am. Also, the Lady Indians varsity/JV game at Elwood will start at 5:00pm instead of 5:30pm this Thursday, May 3rd. Tomorrow’s Baseball and Softball action against Frankton will start at 5:30pm here at Mississinewa High School. The JV Baseball game with Madison Grant will be played on Wednesday May 2nd instead of May 9th and start at 5:00pm.

Tonight’s Events . JV Baseball will host Oak Hill tonight at 5:00pm. RJB Golf tees off at Arbor Trace to take on Eastbrook at 5:00pm, and RJB Soccer hosts Eastern at Mississinewa High School kicking off at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . Cleveland defeated the Pacers yesterday 105-101 to clinch the series and move on to face Toronto. Victor Oladipo scored 30 points on 10-21 shooting to lead Indiana. Lebron James scored 45 for the Cavs.

NHL . Washington defeated Pittsburgh 4-1 yesterday to tie the series 1-1. Nashville took Winnipeg to double-overtime before pulling out the win 5-4 and evening the series at one game each. Tonight, Boston is at Tampa Bay and San Jose will host Las Vegas in the late game.

PGA Tour . Brian Gay won the 2018 Zurich Classic on Sunday at the TPC Louisiana of New Orleans. With the Players Championship just around the corner, next week will feature the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

NASCAR . Joey Logano parked the Ford this weekend taking the Talladega Cup Series win at the Superspeedway. Kevin Harvick was the pole winner. Kyle Busch still sits atop the points leaderboard, but Sunday’s win moves Logano only 30 points behind.

Lady Indians sweep the CIC, Boys Golf balanced attack, and Baseball battles Eagles

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Cheerleading . There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in cheering on Wednesday, May 2nd or Thursday, May 3rd. Both available meetings will be held at 5:30pm in the Mississinewa High School cafeteria.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians defeated Madison Grant last night 5-0 as Haleigh Rowley won 6-0, 6-0 at 1-Singles. Mississinewa is 7-1 overall, and they are 2-0 in the CIC heading into the Homestead Invitational on Saturday. First serve is at 8:30am.

MHS Baseball . Coach Scott and the Indians hosted Oak Hill last night. Mississinewa lost 3-0 with Landon Swanner on the mound. Swanner pitched 7 innings allowing 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Hunter Smalley, Easton Burton, and Cade McCoin were 1-3 at the plate.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians swept the Oak Hill Eagles last night. The varsity team won 12-8 as Cierra Vasquez earned the win allowing 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Vasquez struck out 2 before allowing Jenna Berryhill to pick up the save. Aubrey Tann went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, Riley McKee was 3-5 with 2 RBIs, and Lexi Cruzan finished 2-5 with 2 RBIs to round out the big plate performances of the night.

The junior varsity team remains undefeated with that 9-1 win over Oak Hill last night in five innings. Ireland Thien gave up only 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 11 to get the win. Katie Hosier went 3-3 with a double, triple, and 3 RBIs.

MHS Boys Golf . Mississinewa Boys Golf defeated Oak Hill 174-183. Josh Dakin shot a 41 to lead the Indians while Ty Corey and Breyton Berryhill shot 43. Bryce Luedtke added a 47.

RJB Track & Field . From Coach Van Winkle, the Boys Track team competed against Eastbrook last night at Mississinewa High School. RJB lost 63-37 to the Junior Panthers. Peyton McPeak won the 110m hurdles, 200m, and was part of the first place 4x400m relay. Zach Luchetti, Konner Ricks, and Ty Newsom rounded out that relay team. Seth Workman won the high jump and long jump.

Tonight’s Events . Track and Field is the center of attention tonight as Mississinewa will host the 2018 Grant Four. Events will begin at 5:00pm

Saturday’s Events . Girls Tennis will travel to Homestead at 8:30am for a tough invitational. Softball and Baseball will compete at Oak Hill for the Grant Four title. Softball action begins at 9:00am while Baseball will start at 10:00am. Boys Golf will compete in the Taylor High School Invitational and tee off at 11:00am. RJB Baseball has a double header at Hamilton Heights beginning at 11:00am. Finally, the RJB Track & Field team will compete in the junior high CIC meet at Madison Grant. Events at Fairmount start at 10:00am.

Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers host the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round. That game can be seen on ESPN at 8:00pm.

NHL . Pittsburgh took a 3-2 win over Washington. Jake Guentzel had 3 points with a goal and 2 assists. Matt Murray took in 32 saves. Las Vegas crushed the San Jose Sharks 7-0 with 3 separate players earning 3 points. Mar Andre Fleury pulled 33 saves in the net. Winnipeg and Nashville kick-off their playoff series tonight at 8:00pm on the NBC Sports Network.

NASCAR . On Sunday, April 29th the Monster Energy Cup launches at Talladega Super Speedway. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Fox. Kyle Busch leads the points standings with Kevin Harvick close behind.
