Fones, Lucas Set Records at CIC

Tribe Sports Report

Indian News . The summer training and activities window begins on Tuesday, May 28 and runs until Friday, August 2. MHS Coaches please check your email from Athletic Director Young on “Limited Contact” and conditioning.

Anyone interested in playing Football in 2019 should see Coach Funk or Coach Greentree for a summer training packet.

The IHSAA Moratorium Week is June 30 through July 7 this summer.

MHS Baseball . Mississinewa defeated Elwood last night 6-2 to move to 8-6 overall heading into tonight’s matchup with Alexandria. Seth Maddox earned the win striking out 2 with 2 walks and giving up 4 hits. Holden Brown hit his first varsity home run in the Indians win.

MHS Track & Field . The Boys and Girls placed third at the Central Indiana Conference Meet last night at Oak Hill High School. Brennan Butche won the 1600m and 3200m races. Carlie Fones won the 100m and set a meet and school record at 57.25 with her first place finish in the 400m. Beth Lucas won the 300 hurdles also setting a school record with 46.03.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians defeated Frankton 4-1 by sweeping the singles and picking up a win in the 1-Doubles court. The Junior Varsity lost 3-4. Coach Fleming and the girls are now 4-0 in the conference and 7-4 overall.

MHS Boys Golf . The Indians defeated Taylor last night 183-246 and are now 7-1 heading into the CIC Tournament this weekend. Ty Corey shot a 40, Bryce Luedtke shot 45, and both Justin Dakin and Ryan Scott finished with a 49.

Tonight’s Events . Baseball and Softball will host the Alexandria Tigers tonight starting at 5:00pm with JV Softball to follow. JV Baseball is on the road at Tipton. Girls Tennis serves at Hamilton Heights to round out the evening activities.

Weather Outlook . Rain is expected to move into the area this evening at game time with temps staying right around 70. There is a 60% of storms at 5:30pm. Friday will be a bit cooler with temperatures hovering around 60, but there is only a slight chance of rain.

MHS Baseball . Varsity Baseball defeated Frankton in 5 innings with a score of 10-0. No official statistics were reported.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians Softball team defeated Frankton last night 6-3 on the road. Jenna Berryhill struck out 11 while giving up 5 hits and 3 walks. Berryhill also went 2-4 at the plate. Kylie Smalley was 3-4 with a double, and Madison Stanley was 2-4 with a home run.

MHS Track & Field . Last night the boys and girls both placed second at Oak Hill falling to the Eagles but defeating the Alexandria Tigers. Carli Fones won the 100m, 200m, and 400m. Beth Lucas won the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.22 which was good for a new school record. Haleigh Skeens won the long jump then teamed up with Lucas, Alayna Webb, and Zoe Rogers to win the 4×100 relay.

MHS Girls Tennis . Heidi Rowley and Tyra Stanley gave the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead before Maggie Herring battled at 3-singles to give Mississinewa the 3-2 conference win and bring home the traveling racket. The junior varsity team lost to the Tigers 7-0.

Tonight’s Events . Boys Golf tees off at Madison Grant at 4:30pm this afternoon. Girls Tennis hosts Blackford at 5:00pm, and Baseball will travel to Poneto to play Southern Wells at 5:00pm.

Tennis & Track Brave the Weekend Weather

MHS Softball . The opening rounds of IHSAA Class 3A tournament play were announced this past weekend. The Lady Indians will host Sectional 23 and play Heritage in Game 1. Marion will take on Bellmont in Game 2, and Norwell faces Columbia City in Game 4. TribeTV is planning to stream the entire tournament LIVE on MCSC Athletics YouTube.

MHS Track & Field . The boys and girls placed 3rd at the Grant Four Track & Field Meet this past Friday evening. Oak Hill took the top spot followed by Eastbrook, Mississinewa, and Madison Grant. The team scores were 88.5-76.5-47-31 for the boys respectively, and 105-68-44-24 for the girls.

Carli Fones won the 100m at 13.35, the 200m at 27.19, and the 400m at 1:01.48 while Beth Lucas won the 300 hurdles at 48.06. Brennan Butche won both of the events for the boys team. Butche took the 1600m at 4:26.13 and the 3200m at 9:44.65.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians fell to Oak Hill on Friday 9-5. No official statistics were reported for this event.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians competed in the Homestead Invitational on Saturday. The event was shortened due to weather and no team winner was declared. Heidi Rowley made it to the championship round by defeated top seeds from Lafayette Harrison and Huntington North. Rowley lost in a super tie-break finish. Tyra Stanley and Maggie Herring came away with wins in round one, and Ella Frantz and Taylor Kern earned a win in round two against Concordia.

Tonight’s Events . JV Baseball is on the road tonight at Oak Hill and RJB Soccer plays at Fisher Field. Tomorrow the Indians return to action as Girls Tennis travels to Alexandria, and Track & Field venture to Oak Hill to battle the Eagles and Tigers. Both of those events begin at 5:00pm. At 5:30pm, Baseball and Softball throw the first pitch against the Frankton Eagles on the road.

Don’t forget that the Grant Four Tournaments for Baseball and Softball have been rescheduled to Saturday, May 18th.

College Signings . Congratulations to Amaya David on signing with Middlebury this past week to play softball and continue her academic career.
