Rainy Weekend for Indian Athletics

Friday evening was the Grant Four Track & Field event. Mississinewa Boys & Girls both placed third with a score of 37. There were a lot of great performances by the Boys, but no event winners. The Girls were lead by a great performance by Carli Fones. Fones won the 100m, 200m, and set a school record in the 400m (1:02.44).

The only event to occur on Saturday without postponement was Girls Tennis. The Lady Indians played Frankfort at the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center winning 5-0. Their next match is Tuesday at Alexandria. The JV Lady Indians tied 1-1 with Abigail Tignor winning her singles match.

Golf & Tennis Drop CIC Match-Ups

Boys Golf competed against county and CIC opponent Oak Hill last night losing 185-170. Mississinewa was led by Josh Dakin (39) who was two shots off the medalist Adam McDivitt (37), followed by Breyton Berryhill (47), Braden Henry (48), and Doak Labarr (51). The JV also lost with A.J. Cragun and Devon Dill shooting a 64, and Wesley Steely topped the JV shooting 55. Boys Golf compete next at the Taylor Invitational this Saturday at 9:00am.

Madison Grant defeated our Lady Indian Golfers last night 4-1. Here is Coach Bruce Fleming on the action, “Haleigh Rowley gave the Indians a quick and short-lived lead with her victory at #1 singles.  Madison Grant immediately tied the score with a win at #3 singles.  The second sets at the remaining three positions were competitive but all favoring the more experienced Argyles.” JV also lost 5-3. Heavyn Miller was the only Singles winner. Tennis is now 7-3 on the season (1-1 CIC) and will play in the Peru Invitational on Saturday.

Batch Ceesay signed last night his commitment to Bluffton College to play basketball and continue his academic career. Congratulations to Batch and his family!

Indians Win Across the Board

Girls Tennis hosted Muncie Burris last night. Here is what Coach Bruce Fleming had to say, “On Monday, the Ole Miss Tennis team hosted the Owls of Muncie Burris.  It was a great match that saw four of the five varsity courts playing three-set matches.  With the Indians capturing the #1 singles position in straight sets.  all other positions split the first two sets.  After Katie Powell and Tyra Stanley won their 3rd set at #1 doubles, Maggie Herring won a traditional third set tie break to give the Indians the team victory.  Mississinewa is now 7-2 and will host Madison Grant on Thursday.  Their match vs. Western, scheduled for Tuesday this week, was postponed until May 12th.”

JV Baseball defeated Southern Wells 15-5 in five innings. Cade Campbell was 4-4 with 4 runs, and Andruw Cruz was 3-4 with a triple and a double.

JV Softball hosted Wapahani and picked up another big win 10-1.

Weekend Recap for April 21 & 22

At the Eastbrook Invitational, Mississinewa Boys Golf shot a 372. Dakin (86), Berryhill (91), Luedtke (96), Henry (99), and Cragun (126).

Mississinewa Girls Tennis won the Muncie Central Invitational for the second year in a row by defeating Manchester 4-2 and Muncie 4-1. The Lady Indians are 6-2 hosting Burris tonight at 5:30pm.

The Softball team defeated Huntington North 7-6 at home. Erika Foy pitched the complete game with 5 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. Lexi Cruzan went 2-4 with 2 doubles. Darci Patton was 2-2 with 1 RBI. Madison Stanley had a double. Kait Leavitt, Mallory Sands, Amaya David, Kenzie Skeens all had singles.

Baseball split a doubleheader with Bluffton. The Indians won the first game 12-1 and lost the second 12-4. The game one win went to Garrison Smith on the mound striking out 6. Cade McCoin had a homerun and 3 hits. Young, Burton, Weiss, and Smith had 2 hits. In game two, Weiss, Richards, Harris, and Smith each had 2 hits.

Early Scores from Tuesday (4/18)

Varsity Softball was in the spotlight tonight as they hosted Lapel. This was the first time the team played in a live stream on TheCube, and they served their audience well with a 7-3 win. From the team’s Twitter account, Sands was 4-4 with a homerun and 6 RBI’s. Patton went 3-4, and Leavitt, Stanley, and Cruzan all had doubles.

JV Baseball played at home on Atkinson Field against the Peru Tigers. They lost in a close battle 2-4.

Girls Tennis hosted Wabash to round out the home events for the evening. The Lady Indians won 4-1. TribeTV will have 360-VR video of Court One to share later this week!

Congratulations again to Noah Harris as he signed tonight at Mississinewa High School to continue his baseball and academic career at Goshen.
