Baseball Wins on Senior Night, Softball Battles Slump, & Girls Tennis Sectional

Nine Baseball seniors ended their playing days on their home field with a 12-2 win over Taylor in five innings. Nick Richards pitched the complete game with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. The Titans grabbed five hits off of Richards. Offensively, Garrison Smith had 3 hits, Gage Gallion 2 hits, Lucas Richards 2 hits and 5 runs. Noah Harris had 2 RBIs, Nolan Young and Tim Nemes each had a double. The Indians play tonight at Wabash at 5:30pm then play on Saturday in a rescheduled Grant Four against Oak Hill at 9:00am. The Grant Four is at Madison Grant.


Softball continued to struggle last night as they lost to Northwestern 1-4. Erika Foy pitched the complete game with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks, and gave up 6 hits. Darcie Patton went 1 for 2, Madison Stanley had a single and an RBI, and Mallory Sands and Erika Foy added a hit. The Lady Indians play tonight as they host Eastern at 5:00pm before they open the Grant Four Weekend.


Girls Tennis finished their season and tournament play in a loss to Marion 1-4 last night at the IHSAA Marion Sectional.


In the Howard County Tournament, the 8th Grade Softball team advanced again with a win over Tipton 20-5. They play again tonight at 5:30pm.

Indians Battle Tigers in CIC Events

The Alexandria Tigers were the big opponent across the board in several CIC events last night. Baseball hosted Alexandria and won 15-5. Gage Gallion earned the win on the mound. Noah Harris had three hits. Lucas Richards, Cade McCoin, Garrison Smith, Gage Gallion, and Andruw Weiss had two hits. Weiss also added in a double. The Indians will play at Frankton tonight.

Junior Varsity Baseball defeated Alexandria 8-1. Owen Felver was 2 for 3 with a double, and he also pitched the complete game for the win.


Softball lost to Alexandria 3-8. They will play again tonight as they host Southwood.

Junior Varsity Softball defeated the Tigers 15-1. They finish CIC play 6-0.


Breyton Berryhill (39) was the medalist for Boys Golf as they took on Alexandria and won 173-206. This was the team’s lowest 9-hole round of the year. Josh Dakin shot a 41 followed by Doak Labarr (46) and Braden Henry (47).


The Delta Eagles handed the Lady Indians Tennis team a loss in their final match of the season 0-5. The Eagles are ranked #16 in the state. The Junior Varsity also lost 3-4 behind wins from Gabby Stephenson, Abigail Tignor, and Amiah Lewis. Girls Tennis will play Marion on Wednesday in the IHSAA Girls Tennis Sectional at Marion High School.

18424123_1550729611635425_1109690464631727202_nGirls Tennis had a busy weekend playing Western on Friday and then traveling to Concordia for a tournament on Saturday. The Lady Indians defeated Western 5-0, and 3-2 in the Junior Varsity match.

On Saturday the Lady Indians finished in a tie at 2nd place with Adams Central behind Ft. Wayne Canterbury. Haleigh Rowley placed 3rd at One-Singles. Heidi Rowley also placed 3rd at Two-Singles. Maggie Herring took 5th place in the third spot. Katie Powell and Tyra Stanley finished third at One-Doubles. The Two-Doubles pair finished 4th place between Pia Briz and Gabby Stephenson/Heavyn Miller. Girls Tennis hosts Delta tonight at 5:00pm.


At Adams Central, the Lady Indians Softball team dropped two games in a round-robin event on Saturday. In Game One, the team lost to Adams Central 5-6 in 8 innings. Erika Foy pitched the complete game with 8 hits and 1 strikeout. Riley McKee was 3 for 4, Kait Leavitt was 2 for 3, Erika Foy went 2 of 4, and Darcie Patton had a double and two RBIs.

18424203_1550726051635781_9211690345173812088_nIn Game Two, the Lady Indians lost to Angola 0-9 with Kait Leavitt and Jenna Berryhill on the mound. Darcie Patton had a double.


At the CIC Boys Golf Invitational, the Indians finished in 4th place. Josh Dakin placed 4th individually. Doak Labarr followed at 10th place, and Brayden Henry placed 15th.


Baseball traveled to Homestead for a doubleheader. The Indians lost 3-10 in Game One, and the lost 2-12 in Game Two.


RJB Baseball 8th Grade defeated Logansport and Marion on Saturday while the 7th Grade went 1-1 on the day.

Fones Sets School Record while Indians Pour in the Wins

Mississinewa Track & Field competed in the 2017 CIC Meet the past two nights at Oak Hill High School. The boys placed third (84) behind Eastbrook (192) and Oak Hill (162.5). The girls placed fourth (79) as Oak Hill took the top girls team mark (160). Brennan Butche won the 3200m (9:33.86). Carli Fones won the 100m and set a new school record in the 200m (26.57).


Girls Tennis recorded another win at Yorktown last night. Here is what Coach Fleming had to say, “On Thursday, The OleMiss Tennis Team traveled to Yorktown, where they escaped with a 4-1 victory.   Three of the matches went into a third set.  The team played very well and responded well to the challenges on each court.  Mississinewa has now won 11 of the last 12 matches and owns a record of 13-3.  The Indians will host Western on Friday before playing in the FW Concordia Invitational on Saturday.” The Junior Varsity tied Yorktown 5-5.


The only loss of the night came at Eastbrook in Softball. The Lady Indians lost 1-2 to the Panthers. Erika Foy pitched a complete game giving up only three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Lexi Cruzan was 1 of 1 with a double and an RBI. The Junior Varsity defeated Eastbrook 10-2 in 6 innings of play. Berryhill pitched the complete game (3 hits, 9 Ks, 3 walks). Bartel and Herring led the offense going 2 for 2.


Baseball defeated Eastbrook 5-2. They are now 4-1 in the CIC. Smith earned the win on the mound after a save from Smalley. McCoin recorded 2 hits and an RBI. Junior Varsity Baseball also won. The Indians beat Tipton at home 19-0. Tyler Jakob pitched the 5 inning shutout. Drew Castanon went 2 for 2 with four runs.


RJB Golf won last night with a team score of 190 over Eastbrook (226) and Oak Hill (254). Corey was the medalist with a 42 followed by Dakin (46), Scott (48), and Walters (54).

Huge Wins for Tennis, Softball, Baseball and Boys Golf Edged by Taylor

Storms rolled through the area eventually, but only the Track & Field CIC Meet was affected. That event will continue tonight at Oak Hill starting at 5:30pm.


The big story of the night was the 33-0 scoreline coming from Junior Varsity Baseball. The Indians defeated Madison Grant (CIC) at home with Seth Maddox pitching the complete game. Tyler Jakob led the Indians going 3 for 3 with a single, double, and a triple.


Coach Fleming and the Girls Tennis team traveled to Frankton. Here is what he had to report, “On Wednesday, the OleMiss Tennis team traveled to Frankton to play its last conference match of the season.  The Indians nearly missed a clean sweep of the varsity courts in its 5-0 victory.  Mississinewa has now won 10 of their last 11 matches.  OleMiss is now 12-3 and will travel to Yorktown on Thursday.”

The Varsity squad gave up only two points in the One Doubles contest, winning every other set 6-0. The Junior Varsity also won 6-0.


Softball defeated Daleville on the road last night 14-1. Kait Leavitt pitched for the win, and she also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Darcie Patton was 4 of 4 with a home run, double, and 4 RBI’s. Mallory Sands went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Erika Foy rounded out the offensive leaders going 2 for 3 with an RBI.


Mississinewa Boys Golf came close, but they fell short to Taylor 190-188 under Josh Dakin’s top mark of 41 (one short of medalist). The other marks were Breyton Berryhill (46), Doak Labarr (49), and A.J. Cragun (54)

JV Squads Take Wins while Varsity Struggle on the Diamond, Tennis Beat Star Fires

The Girls Tennis team recorded their eleventh win of the year over South Adams last night 3-2. Here is what Coach Fleming had to report, “On Tuesday, the OleMiss Tennis Team traveled to South Adams for an impromptu match.  Mississinewa was scheduled to play Southwood but instead found themselves on the way to South Adams after their original opponents were forced to cancel to make up a conference match.  After OleMiss won the first two singles positions and the Stars won the two doubles matches, the deciding singles position moved into a third set.  Maggie Herring captured the third set to give the Indians the team win.  Mississinewa is now 11-3 overall.  OleMiss will play at conference foe Frankton Wednesday.”

Heavyn Miller and Abigail Tignor were the Singles winners. Tignor/Gray combo won in the Doubles.


Softball dropped a CIC contest to Elwood 1-8. Kait Leavitt and Erika Foy pitched in the loss giving up 14 hits, walking one, and striking out two. Darcie Patton went 2 for 3 with two doubles. Erika Foy and Mallory Sands each had singles. Junior Varsity Softball defeated Elwood 8-0. Davis (2-3, 3B), Dotterweich and Swafford (2B), Berryhill and Vasquez (Singles). Berryhill pitched a complete game no-hitter with 9 strikeouts.


Baseball lost to Elwood in a close game 0-1. Junior Varsity Baseball defeated Blackford 8-5 on the road. Cade Campbell went 3 for 4 and pitched 5 innings for the win. Malcolm O’Brien was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.

Golf, Baseball, and Tennis Win Big

Girls Tennis hosted Blackford last night in a CIC match that proved fairly easy for the Indians. Four out of the five varsity courts were shutouts in the Lady Indians 5-0 win (4 total points on the One-Doubles court for Blackford). The JV also defeated Alexandria 7-0. Coach Fleming and the Lady Indians are now 10-3 (3-1 CIC) on the season.


Baseball had another huge night, bringing home a 14-1 win at Southern Wells. The Indians scored 10 runs in the first inning. Nolan Young had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Lucas Richards and Cade McCoin had 2 hits each, and McCoin added a homerun and 2 RBIs. Trey Jones got the win on the mound striking out 4 on 1 earned run. The JV game against Tipton was cut short due to weather.


Josh Dakin was the medalist (38) last night for the Boys Golf team as they defeated Madison Grant (CIC) 178-215. Bryce Luedtke shot a 45, followed by Doak Labarr (47), and Braden Henry (48). The closest Madison Grant score to Dakin’s excellent round was a 45. The JV (three-man team) also won 186-192. Wesley Steeley shot a 55, A.J. Cragun shot a 60, and Devon Dill recorded a 71.

Baseball Bombs 6, Track & Field at Oak Hill, Lady Indians in CIC Action

Indians Baseball was on the road last night at Oak Hill High School. The Indians hit six home runs to defeat the Golden Eagles 10-6, and pick up a great CIC win. Two of those home runs were hit by Nolan Young, and one grand slam by Lucas Richards.

Softball lost to Oak Hill last night 9-14. Foy had the complete game giving up 13 hits, striking out 3, and walking 1. The Indians defense made seven errors at Oak Hill. Their next game is Thursday at Frankton. JV Softball defeated Oak Hill 11-7.

Girls Tennis traveled to Alexandria (CIC) where they swept the singles spots and won a super tie-break at #2 Doubles to win 4-1. The Lady Indians are 9-3 (2-1 CIC) heading into tonight’s home match with Blackford. The JV also won last night 5-2.

Oak Hill came out on top of the 3-Way Track & Field event last night with Alexandria and Mississinewa. The Lady Indians placed second as a team (Oak Hill 92, Mississinewa 38, Alexandria 26). Carli Fones won the 100m along with the relay team in the 4×400.

Boys Track & Field placed third (Oak Hill 70, Alexandria 55, Mississinewa 31). Skeens won the Long Jump, McClung grabbed first in the High Jump, and Cowgill took the 100m.

Rainy Weekend for Indian Athletics

Friday evening was the Grant Four Track & Field event. Mississinewa Boys & Girls both placed third with a score of 37. There were a lot of great performances by the Boys, but no event winners. The Girls were lead by a great performance by Carli Fones. Fones won the 100m, 200m, and set a school record in the 400m (1:02.44).

The only event to occur on Saturday without postponement was Girls Tennis. The Lady Indians played Frankfort at the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center winning 5-0. Their next match is Tuesday at Alexandria. The JV Lady Indians tied 1-1 with Abigail Tignor winning her singles match.

Golf & Tennis Drop CIC Match-Ups

Boys Golf competed against county and CIC opponent Oak Hill last night losing 185-170. Mississinewa was led by Josh Dakin (39) who was two shots off the medalist Adam McDivitt (37), followed by Breyton Berryhill (47), Braden Henry (48), and Doak Labarr (51). The JV also lost with A.J. Cragun and Devon Dill shooting a 64, and Wesley Steely topped the JV shooting 55. Boys Golf compete next at the Taylor Invitational this Saturday at 9:00am.

Madison Grant defeated our Lady Indian Golfers last night 4-1. Here is Coach Bruce Fleming on the action, “Haleigh Rowley gave the Indians a quick and short-lived lead with her victory at #1 singles.  Madison Grant immediately tied the score with a win at #3 singles.  The second sets at the remaining three positions were competitive but all favoring the more experienced Argyles.” JV also lost 5-3. Heavyn Miller was the only Singles winner. Tennis is now 7-3 on the season (1-1 CIC) and will play in the Peru Invitational on Saturday.

Batch Ceesay signed last night his commitment to Bluffton College to play basketball and continue his academic career. Congratulations to Batch and his family!
