Girls Golf Falls to Daleville, Football Preps for Comets

Indian Football returns tonight to face the Eastern Comets on the road in a pre-season scrimmage. The Indians are ranked 4th in Class 4A entering Week One in the state polls. Their season opener will place them against Pendelton Heights on Fisher Field next Friday at 7:00pm. Sophomore Garrett Johnson remarked, “We will get a bunch of great insight tonight against Eastern, and it will all come down to our effort and intensity how we start the season.”

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians fell to 2-2 on the season after a loss at Shady Hills last night to Daleville 205-248. LaBarr, Allen, and Horvath all shot 61’s. Coach Simpson and the team will host Blackford and Madison Grant on Wednesday.

Tonight’s Events . Football travels to Eastern to take on the Comets at 7:00pm.

Saturday’s Events . The boys and girls soccer teams open the season with Jamboree play on Saturday. Boys will host the event starting at 11:00am, and the girls will play at Eastbrook and begin at 2:00pm.

PGA Golf . Gary Woodland leads the PGA Championship after day one at 6-under at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

RJB Athletics set to open spring seasons

Weather Updates . Yesterday, Athletic Director Chanse Young worked with our teams as several events were cancelled due to weather. Girls Tennis will match-up tonight against Marion. The Baseball games against Yorktown have been postponed with no rescheduled date being set as of this morning. Wapahani cancelled the MHS Softball game, and there has been no make-up date set.

RJB Golf . R.J. Baskett will try and hold a team this spring as some might have heard there will be none this season. The schedule is updated on the RJB Springs Sports web page. Matches with Blackford have been cancelled along with the Trailside Invitational at the end of the season.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Girls Tennis plays at Marion tonight at 4:30pm. MHS Baseball will host Wabash at 5:00pm, and that game can be seen live on MCSC Athletics YouTube provided by TribeTV. JV Softball travels to Maconaquah for a 5:00pm first pitch. Finally, RJB Soccer will host King’s Academy at 6:00pm at Mississinewa High School.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . Indiana will face Golden State tonight at 7:00pm. The Warriors are 57-21 on the season.

PGA Tour . The Masters teed off today at 8:30am at Augusta National. Last years winner Sergio Garcia starts at 10:53am.

MLB . Here are some scores from around the league.

  • Cleveland lost to the Angels in 13 innings 3-2.
  • The Chicago White Sox won 4-3 over Toronto.
  • St. Louis topped the Brewers 6-0.

Weekend Recap! Football, Tennis, Soccer, and More

The Mississinewa Indians lost a CIC Football battle against Eastbrook on Friday night 42-21. Cade Campbell rushed for two touchdowns (112 yards on 22 carries) and Heisman Skeens (70 yards rushing and 53 receiving) ran for a touchdown as well. The Indians host Madison Grant next week. Fans can watch that game live on TribeTV.


Boys Tennis competed in the Homestead Invitational on Saturday and placed 6th of eight teams. Paxton Sample finished the day in 2nd place at #3 Singles as he defeated Penn and Concord, but eventually lost to Homestead in the finals. The Indians are 11-4 with Frankton at home this Wednesday in their final CIC match.


Volleyball had a tough contest Saturday at Delta. The Junior Varsity and Varsity (21-25, 16-25, 17-25) lost in straight sets. Erika Foy had 5 kills and 6 digs. Halle Planck recorded 7 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces. Kirsten Lockwood had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Kenzie Skeens tallied 22 assists.


The Boys Soccer team kicked off a double header with the Lady Indians on Saturday at Blackford. Williams, Yoder, and Sallade scored for the Indians to give the boys a 3-1 win over the Bruins. The girls won 3-2 off of two goals from Webb and one from Ulerick.


Girls Golf finished their season at the Huntington North Sectional this past weekend placing 8th. Scores: LaBarr (93), Davis (106), Tignor (113), Pannell (118), and Allen (124). Good season Lady Indians!

At the Jim Leffler Invitational, the Indians Cross Country team finished 8th (boys) and 9th (girls). Brennan Butche was first for the boys with a time of 15:54. Jon Tucker(30), Jacob Ehmer (31), and Tony Parish (68) were the top runners for the boys. The Lady Indians were led by Carli Fones who finished 16th. Jordan Luedtke (50) and Lynnzey Young (51) rounded out the top three for the girls. Raegan Tippey won the JV Girls race, and Bryce Nash finished 21st for the top JV boys runner.

RJB 6th Grade Volleyball competed in the Selma Invitational and finished the day 1-3.


Mississinewa Alum Katie Elson was one of two athletes to receive the Jack and Marge Colescott Athletic Scholarship on Saturday at Arbor Trace. Congratulations Katie!
