Tennis, Volleyball, and Golf Grab CIC Wins

Tribe Sports Report

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 7.36.54 AMMHS Boys Tennis . Coach Fleming and Indians Tennis moved to 2-0 in the CIC by completely shutting out the Blackford Bruins in Hartford City last night. The team did not allow a single game to the Bruins in every competition including the junior varsity event. Overall, the team is 6-3 on the season with a very tough tournament on Saturday.

MHS Volleyball . The Lady Indians defeated Eastbrook last night 3-1, and 2-0 in the junior varsity match. Caily Bolser and Halle Planck had 8 kills in the win. Tyra Stanley (15) and Jenna Berryhill (16) were the assist leaders, and Madison Stanley recorded 47 digs.

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians defeated Frankton last night at Shady Hills 221-243. Maggie LaBarr and Peighten Allen earned medalist honors at 52 for Coach Fleming. Madison Dotterwiech shot 53, Pannell 64, and Abbott 72 to round out the scoring for the Lady Indians.

Boys Soccer . Indians soccer lost to Heritage in Monroesville last night 7-0.

RJB Volleyball . The 7th grade girls opened up the evening at Elwood losing 22-25 and 13-25. The 8th grade team earned a solid victory with 25-6 and 25-5 wins over the Panthers.

RJB Tennis . The boys and girls both lost to McCulloch last night 2-3. The doubles teams of Spencer/Stanley and Smith/Price netted wins for the boys. Fuqua and Bushman captured victories in singles-play for the girls.

Tonight’s Events . The Mississinewa Indians are on the road tonight to visit the Elwood Panthers. Coach Funk and the team are 1-1 after a close defeat to open the season against Pendelton Heights and a huge win at New Haven. The CIC season opens up tonight at 7:00pm.

Saturday’s Events . Volleyball will participate in the Kay Saunders Invitational at Wes-Del starting at 9:00am on Saturday. Boys Tennis also has a big weekend competing in the Ft. Wayne Carroll Invitational. The Indians open play against No. 9 Cathedral in the morning session. Cross Country will run at 9:00am at Indiana Wesleyan against Marion. Girls soccer will travel to Whitko for a 10:00am start. Just a reminder, that the boys soccer game was cancelled against Whitko for this Saturday.


Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Golf . The Dell Technologies Championship is under-way this morning at the TPC of Boston. Last year’s champion Justin Thomas tees off today.

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up the preseason with a 27-26 win over Cincinnati last night. Phillip Walker was 19-31 for 263 yards, and two touchdowns. Christian Michael had 5 carries for 41 yards.

NCAA Football . On Saturday, September 1st Alabama opens up against Louisville as the preseason number one. Michigan faces Notre Dame at 7:30pm on NBC, and No. 6 Washington will battle No. 9 Auburn at 3:30 on ABC.

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians played at Norwood Golf Course last night against Huntington North. The girls lost 222-175. Maggie LaBarr shot the top mark at 49. Other scores include Pannell (55), Allen (57), Dotterwiech (61), Horvath (63), and White (66).

MHS Boys Tennis . Mississinewa lost last night to the Marion Giants 3-2. Coach Fleming and the Indians are now 4–3 on the season heading into conference play tonight at Madison Grant. Conner Murphy and Hayden Rowley captured the Singles wins last night. The JV team won 2-1 with a Singles and a Doubles victory from Ethan Sample and Josiah Stark.

RJB Cross Country . The Junior Indians ran last night against McCulloch Middle School. Samantha Jones finished 2nd overall at 16:40. Noah Shafer came in 4th at 14:03 for the boys race.

MHS Girls Soccer . Girls Soccer lost to Oak Hill last night. No official result or statistics have been received.

MHS Boys Soccer . Boys soccer lost to Delta last night 5-1. No official statistics have been received.

Tonight’s Events . Girls Golf will face Eastbrook at 4:30pm. Boys Tennis travels to Fairmount to take on Madison Grant. First serve is at 5:00pm. RJB Tennis will host Western at MHS at 5:00pm. RJB Football is on the road at Eastern. Kick-off is at 6:00pm in Greentown.

Tribe Sports Report

A rain-soaked Saturday forced several cancellations for the Indians. Girls and boys soccer matches were cancelled even after the boys attempted their game at Fisher Field. RJB Cross Country was cancelled at Taylor University, and at this point MCSC Athletics is still awaiting official word on the day for the high school runners. Boys Tennis also had a tournament at Mooresville, but no official word was reported on the day.

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians missed the victory at the CIC match this weekend placing 6th, but Maggie LaBarr earned all-conference honors on the day.

MHS Football . The Indians defeated the New Haven Bulldogs on Friday evening 37-0. Cade Campbell ran three touchdowns in while causing a Bulldog safety. Carson Campbell and Andrew Cruz each added a rushing touchdown. Andre Sallade was a perfect 5-5 kicking. Mississinewa is on the road again this Friday at Elwood.

  • Offensive Player of the Week went to Team Offense
  • Defensive Player of the Week went to Team Defense
  • Tuff Man Award went to Heisman Skeens
  • The Warrior of the Week is Cade Campbell, Tabias Mead, and Kyler Funk
  • Special Teams Performance of the Week went to Andre Sallade and Hunter Ribble
  • Lineman of the Week was Chris Pavey
  • 6-Second Player Award was given to Carson Campbell

Tonight’s Events . RJB Volleyball will host East Jay tonight at 6:00pm while the Lady Indians take on the Oak Hill Eagles at the high school. JV Football hosts New Haven this evening. Kick-off will also be at 6:00pm.

PGA Golf . Bryson DeChambeau won the Northern Trust in New Jersey on Sunday at 18-under. Tiger Woods finished 14 strokes off the leader.

NFL . The Colts defeated San Fransisco 23-17 on Saturday. Jacoby Brissett, Andrew Luck, and Phillip Walker all took snaps. Luck was 8 of 10 for 90 yards. Indianapolis faces the Bengals on Thursday in the fourth week of the preseason.

Premiere League Soccer . Chelsea edged out a 2-1 win over New Castle Sunday with the help of an own goal. Chelsea currently sit atop the table with Liverpool with Manchester United set to face Spurs this afternoon to wrap up week three.
