LaBarr, Lady Indians Take a Swing at IHSAA Sectionals

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians competed in the IHSAA Sectional 12 event on Saturday and placed 9th overall. Maggie LaBarr shot a 98 in the team’s total of 441. Anabella Pannell finished the year with a 115. Peighten Allen shot 118, Madison Dotterweich added 110, and Jasmine Horvath shot 128.

MHS Football . Mississinewa Football moved to 4-1 on the season, and 3-0 in the CIC after Saturday’s 58-0 win over Madison Grant at Ball State University. Heisman Skeens accounted for 236 total yards in the win. Cade Campbell had two scoring runs, Drew Castanon caught the opening drive touchdown pass from Skeens and accumulated 52 total yards in the game, and Kyler Funk made a big play on the defensive side of the ball with an interception which he ran back for a touchdown. Here are this week’s team awards:

MHS Boys Tennis . On Saturday, tennis competed in the Homestead Invitational. The Indians came in 7th place under 5 ranked teams. Hayden Rowley was the runner-up at 3-Singles after wins against Concord and Penn. Rowley lost in the finals to a 2nd ranked Homestead opponent. The Indians finish their conference season at Frankton on Wednesday with a push for an undefeated conference season. Overall they are 9-6.

MHS Cross Country . At the Riverview Health Cross Country Invitational this weekend, Brennan Butche finished 3rd with a time of 16:01. Aurora Fisher came in 7th at 20:49, and Raegan Tippey was 28th with a time of 22:08.

RJB Sports . No official results were reported from this weekend’s R.J. Baskett football or volleyball events.

Tonight’s Events . Volleyball takes on the Delta Eagles at 6:00pm here at MHS. JV Football will travel to Madison Grant at 5:30pm to take on the Argylls. RJB Tennis will play McCulloch at Marion High School at 5:00pm, and RJB 6th grade Volleyball will host Oak Hill at 6:00pm at the middle school.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . Indianapolis is now 1-1 with their week two win at Washington 21-9. Andrew Luck had 179 yards on 21 of 31 passes with 2 touchdowns completions. The Colts will face Philadelphia in week three on Sunday at 1:00pm (FOX).

College Football . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Trinity this weekend 80-6 in their third week of the inaugural season. #12 LSU edged out #7 Auburn 22-21. Wisconsin and USC were both upset this weekend. The Badgers sit at #6 right now in the latest poll, and will face undefeated Iowa in week four.

MLB . Detroit defeated Cleveland on Sunday 6-4. Baltimore topped the White Sox 8-4 to round out the only games from around the midwest. The Tigers play the Twins today at 7:10pm, St. Louis faces Atlanta at 7:35pm, and the Reds face Milwaukee at 7:40pm.

PGA Golf . Next up for the tour is the Tour Championship which runs September 20-23 in Atlanta at East Lake Golf Club.

NASCAR . Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag at Las Vegas this weekend in the Monster Energy Cup leading 75 of the racing laps.

Soccer . Liverpool continued their hot start in the EPL with a win over Spurs, but Chelseas sit atop the table on goal differential. The Chicago Fire defeated Orlando in MLS action on Sunday 4-0.

Volleyball Chops Down Giants, RJB Football Continues Panther Season

MHS Girls Golf . Mississinewa teed off against Elwood last night at the Golf Links. The Lady Indians lost 235-244. Maggie LaBarr was the medalist with a round of 50. LaBarr was the only Lady Indian below 60.

MHS Volleyball . The Marion Lady Giants were at Friedenburg Court for a match with Coach Bolser and team. Mississinewa won in three quick sets 25-12, 25-13, 25-11. Halle Planck and Cailyn Bolser had 12 kills each in the win. Emily Taylor added a team-leading 20 digs. The junior varsity also came away with a 2-0 win.

RJB Volleyball . No official results were reported from junior high volleyball last night.

RJB Football . The 7th grade football team made a crucial stop on 4th down at the 2-yard line last night to secure a win 8-6 over the Eastbrook Panthers. Elliot Williams had the Indians only touchdown. Preston McCann added the two extra points. The 8th grade won 38-0 over the Eastbrook Panthers. Hayden Nelson had a stand-out performance with three touchdowns.

Tonight’s Events . Girls and boys soccer host the Blackford Bruins at Fisher Field starting at 5:30pm with the Lady Indians.

Saturday’s Events . Indian football travels to Ball State this weekend for a 4:00pm kick-off against Madison Grant in the annual CIC Day event. RJB Football will play at halftime of the contest. Boys Tennis will compete in the challenging Homestead Invitational starting at 9:00am. 6th grade volleyball makes the trip to compete in the Selma Invitational at 9:00am to round out the events for Saturday.

Today’s Sports World Update

MLB . The Cubs outlasted the Nationals in 10 last night 4-3. Kris Bryant was 3 of 5, and Javier Baez went 3 of 4 with a home run. St. Louis dropped a game to the Dodgers for the only other result from around the Midwest.

NFL . The Bengals defeated the Ravens last night 34-23. The Indianapolis Colts will face Washington on the road this Sunday at 1:00pm on CBS.

College Football . Headlining this weekends college football matchups is #12 LSU at #7 Auburn on Saturday at 3:30pm (CBS). Indiana Wesleyan continues their inaugural season by hosting Trinity at noon on Saturday. The Wildcats are 1-1 after a big win last week 61-6 over Anderson.

PGA Golf . Next up for the tour is the Tour Championship which runs September 20-23 in Atlanta at East Lake Golf Club.

NASCAR . On Sunday, the Monster Energy Cup returns to Las Vegas. Race fans can watch at 3:00pm on NBC Sports Network.

Soccer . Liverpool sits atop the EPL table heading into week five after the international break. Chelsea and Watford are equal on points. Tottenham faces Liverpool in the early match on Saturday. At 12:30pm, Manchester United will take on top-team Watford in one of the must-watch matches of the weekend.

Girls Soccer Wins Big

MHS Girls Golf . Coach Simpson and the girls golf team defeated Wes-Del last night. Peighten Allen was the medalist with a 51.

MHS Girls Soccer . The Lady Indians defeated Wapahani on the road 8-3 last night.

MHS Boys Soccer . Boys Soccer came away with a draw against the Wapahani Raiders at Fisher Field 1-1. Collin Yoder had the only goal for the Indians, while Conner Layman recorded 3 saves in the net.

MHS Volleyball . Volleyball lost to Alexandria 3-1 last night and now faces a battle for second place in the CIC. The Lady Indians and Tigers were the only two teams left undefeated in the conference.

RJB Sports . There were no results reported on RJB Tennis, Cross Country, or Volleyball from last night.

Tonight’s Events . Girls Soccer will host Muncie Burris at 5:30pm tonight. Boys Tennis will also battle for a conference win with the Elwood Panthers here at Mississinewa starting at 5:00pm. RJB Tennis travels to Madison Grant for a 5:00pm first serve.


Today’s Sports World Update

MLB . The Detroit Tigers lost to Houston last night 5-4. Cincinnati topped the Dodgers 3-1. Cleveland defeated the Rays 2-0. The Cubs won 3-0 over the Brewers, while the White Sox lost 6-3 to Kansas City. Lastly, the St. Louis Cardinals won 11-5 over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

Soccer . The US Men’s National Team defeated Mexico last night 1-0 on a 71st minute goal by Tyler Adams.
