Weekend Recap! Football, Tennis, Soccer, and More

The Mississinewa Indians lost a CIC Football battle against Eastbrook on Friday night 42-21. Cade Campbell rushed for two touchdowns (112 yards on 22 carries) and Heisman Skeens (70 yards rushing and 53 receiving) ran for a touchdown as well. The Indians host Madison Grant next week. Fans can watch that game live on TribeTV.


Boys Tennis competed in the Homestead Invitational on Saturday and placed 6th of eight teams. Paxton Sample finished the day in 2nd place at #3 Singles as he defeated Penn and Concord, but eventually lost to Homestead in the finals. The Indians are 11-4 with Frankton at home this Wednesday in their final CIC match.


Volleyball had a tough contest Saturday at Delta. The Junior Varsity and Varsity (21-25, 16-25, 17-25) lost in straight sets. Erika Foy had 5 kills and 6 digs. Halle Planck recorded 7 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces. Kirsten Lockwood had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Kenzie Skeens tallied 22 assists.


The Boys Soccer team kicked off a double header with the Lady Indians on Saturday at Blackford. Williams, Yoder, and Sallade scored for the Indians to give the boys a 3-1 win over the Bruins. The girls won 3-2 off of two goals from Webb and one from Ulerick.


Girls Golf finished their season at the Huntington North Sectional this past weekend placing 8th. Scores: LaBarr (93), Davis (106), Tignor (113), Pannell (118), and Allen (124). Good season Lady Indians!

At the Jim Leffler Invitational, the Indians Cross Country team finished 8th (boys) and 9th (girls). Brennan Butche was first for the boys with a time of 15:54. Jon Tucker(30), Jacob Ehmer (31), and Tony Parish (68) were the top runners for the boys. The Lady Indians were led by Carli Fones who finished 16th. Jordan Luedtke (50) and Lynnzey Young (51) rounded out the top three for the girls. Raegan Tippey won the JV Girls race, and Bryce Nash finished 21st for the top JV boys runner.

RJB 6th Grade Volleyball competed in the Selma Invitational and finished the day 1-3.


Mississinewa Alum Katie Elson was one of two athletes to receive the Jack and Marge Colescott Athletic Scholarship on Saturday at Arbor Trace. Congratulations Katie!

Football Battle Tonight . Indians Win Big Last Night

Volleyball swept the competition from Varsity to 7th grade last night. The Lady Indians defeated Marion in three straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-15) after the JV squad swept the Giants earlier that evening. Erika Foy had 12 kills, 5 digs, and 1 ace. Taylor Walker, Halle Planck, and Kirsten Lockwood had 5 kills each. Planck added 3 blocks to her stat sheet, and Kenzie Skeens recorded 34 assists and 4 digs.

The RJB Lady Indians hosted CIC opponent Frankton last night. The 8th grade defeated Frankton 2-1 while the 7th grade swept the Eagles 2-0.


Boys Tennis continued Mississinewa’s great evening with a CIC win over Elwood 5-0. Here is the report from Coach Fleming, “The Indians blanked the Panthers in 8 of the 10 sets to extend their record to 4-0 in the conference and 11-4 overall.  Mississinewa will play in the Homestead Invitational, that will include five state-ranked teams, on Saturday.”

#2S: Conner Murphy won 6-0, 6-4
#3S: Chandler Morrison won 6-1, 6-0
#1D: Seth Graves / Paxton Sample won 6-0, 6-0
#2D: Mason Christensen / Josiah Stark won 6-0, 6-0
Ethan Miller won his JV singles match 8-1.


Elwood also ran into trouble on the golf course facing the Lady Indians at Shady Hills. Mississinewa won 202-219 in this Girls Golf competition. Davis led the way as medalist shooting a 46 followed by LaBarr (47), Tignor (53), Allen (56), and Pannell (65).


Football Teams Set to Aide Hurricane Victims Tonight

The Mississinewa Indians are set to face the Eastbrook Panthers tonight at Eastbrook High School (7:00pm kickoff). While this is a big CIC battle, the teams are coming together in an effort to support the victims of the recent hurricanes.

In cooperation with Earthwise Plastics in Marion both schools will be collecting supplies to send to hurricane victims. A box for donations will be located next to the Ticket Booth at the game tonight. Some of the items needed:

Boys Tennis Topples Tigers

Coach Bruce Fleming describes last night’s CIC battle on the courts in which Mississinewa won 3-2, “On Monday, the Ole Miss Boys Tennis Team traveled to Alexandria to compete against the Tigers in a conference match.  The Indians grabbed an early lead with quick wins at #3Singles, by Paxton Sample, and #1Singles, by Isaac Torres.  After Alexandria captured the #1Doubles match and was winning the #2Doubles position, Conner Murphy was mounting a first set comeback that gave him tremendous momentum heading into the second set.  Murphy secured the team’s important 3rd point to give the Indians the victory.  Mississinewa is now 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the CIC.  Ole Miss will travel to Elwood on Wednesday for another conference matchup.”


Girls Golf competed at Shady Hills against Oak Hill last night. The Lady Indians lost 222-204. Davis shot a 47 (3 strokes off the medalist), followed by LaBarr’s 55, Tignor (57), and Pannell (63).

Indians Dominate Panthers for Homecoming

Indians Football rolled past the Elwood Panthers Friday night amidst the Homecoming festivities this past weekend 60-0 for another CIC win. Senior Cade McCoin connected for four touchdowns, three of those to Heisman Skeens and the fourth to Hunter Smalley. Sophomore Cade Campbell had a great ground attack rushing for two touchdowns and one punt return TD. Freshman Tai McClung ran for two touchdowns as well. On defense, Bryce Luedtke had one interception for the Indians.


Mississinewa Cross Country ran at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. A huge highlight was Aurora Fisher breaking the school record, set by Amanda Baldwin (2015), with a time of 19:46. Both the Boys and Girls teams finished in 15th place. Brennan Butche placed 4th overall for the Boys.


At the Grant Four Golf outing on Saturday Mississinewa Lady Indians placed 4th. Maggie LaBarr led the girls with a 101.


Ole Miss Boys Tennis continued to get back on track with a big win against the visitors from Northeastern 5-0. The match was played with two singles and three doubles events. The Indians are 9-4 on the season with Alexandria tonight.

RJB Football Wins Big

8th Grade Football traveled to Blackford Monday, and earned a big CIC win over the Bruins 60-14. Carson Campbell had 7 touchdowns.


Girls Golf defeated Alexandria 211-220 with Maggie LaBarr taking the medal at 47. (Davis 51, Tignor 56, Allen 57, Pannell 60)


Cross Country ran last night at the Oak Hill Invitational. The boys team placed 2nd while the Lady Indians placed 5th. Johnathan Tucker (6) and Jacob Ehmer (10) lead the way for the Indians while Carli Fones (11) was the top runner for the girls.

Tough Night For Indians

Cross Country ran last night against Eastern (Greentown) and Madison Grant in Fairmount. The boys and girls teams both placed 2nd. Jakob Ehmer was the top runner for the boys and finished 1st at 19:22. Anika Williams at 26:46 earned 1st place in the girls race.


Boys Tennis lost to #24 Marion 4-1.


Girls Golf hosted Huntington North and were defeated 179-214. Davis shot a season best to lead the Lady Indians with a 46. Other scores included LaBarr (52), Tignor and Allen (58), and Pannell (61).


Girls Soccer traveled to Oak Hill and came up short. They lost to the Eagles 3-0.


In Junior High athletics, the volleyball squads traveled to East Jay to open up their season. The 8th grade team lost, but the 7th grade Lady Indians earned a win.

Weekend Recap: Butche 1st at Taylor

Mississinewa Cross Country traveled to Taylor University this past Saturday for the high school and middle school invitational. Junior Brennan Buche broke the school record and course record with a time of 15:49.3 (5:06/M) winning the boys race. Aurora Fisher was the top runner for the Lady Indians finishing 12th with a time of 20:35.9. As a team the girls and boys both placed 11th.


Indians Football was defeated in a very exciting game in their home field opener 36-32 by the New Haven Bulldogs. Senior Evan Wilkins had a fumble recovery. Cade McCoin rushed for one touchdown and completed a pass to Hunter Smalley for another. Junior Heisman Skeens and Sophomore Cade Campbell both added a touchdown on foot.


Girls Golf placed 4th at the CIC match on Saturday. LaBarr and Davis both received All-CIC Honorable Mention finishing 10th and 9th respectively. LaBarr shot a 98 and Davis a 97. Other scores included Tignor (114), Allen (122), and Pannell (136).


Boys and Girls Soccer struggled this past Saturday. The boys lost 11-0 on the road at Delta while the girls fell 5-0 at home to Wabash.

Lady Indians Win

Volleyball captured a home win against the visiting Northfield Norse (25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21). Kenzie Skeens recorded 47 assists and 3 aces. Halle Planck had 14 kills and 6 blocks. Erika Foy also had 14 kills with 6 digs and 2 blocks.


Girls Golf defeated Bluffton 220-240. LaBarr was the medalist with a 51. The other scores were Davis (53), Tignor (62), Allen (54), and Pannell (66).

Boys Tennis Wins in Tough Night for Indians

Boys Tennis was the highlight of the evening as they remain undefeated at 4-0 with a road win at Western 3-2. Conner Murphy (7-6(2), 6-1), Paxton Sample (6-1, 6-0), and the One-Doubles team of Seth Graves and Chandler Morrison (7-5, 6-4) brought home wins for the Indians.


Indians Soccer faced a tough opponent last night in Huntington North. The Lady Indians fell 11-0 at home (watch the replay on TribeTV), and the Boys lost 11-1 on the road. Sam Tarpein had the lone goal for Indians soccer last night.


Girls Golf lost to Eastbrook, who remains undefeated so far this year, by a score of 217-211. Mississinewa’s top four all shot season lows (LaBarr 48, Davis 48, Tignor 59, Allen 62).
