Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Mississinewa took part in the Elkhart Memorial Invitational on Saturday where they placed 5th unofficially as a team. Courtland Smith took first place at 145, while Kyler Funk and Andruw Cruz took second. Nick Coulter earned a third place finish in the tournament.

MHS Girls Basketball . The Lady Indians took on Oak Hill on the road Saturday in a CIC contest in which the Lady Eagles entered highly ranked and locked in on the defensive leaderboard. Mississinewa lost 63-23 after nearly two quarters of scoreless play. Ally Hewitt led the Lady Indians with 7 points. The junior varsity dropped their contest to Oak Hill earlier that morning. 

MHS Boys Basketball . Coach James Reed picked up his first win of his career against the State Champion Oak Hill Eagles on Friday night. The Indians captured a CIC victory 69-60 forcing 25 Eagle turnovers. Colin Yoder had a stand-out performance with 15 points including some work behind the arc that turned up the energy in the gymnasium. The JV also won 38-33.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball will host McCulloch tonight while the boys hit the road to take on the Wabash Apaches. Both junior high events will start at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . Indianapolis moved to 7-6 with a win over the Texans 24-21 this weekend. Andrew Luck was 27-41 with 399 yards and 2 touchdowns. T.Y. Hilton had 9 catches for 199 yards. The Colts face Dallas in Indy on Sunday, December 16 at 1:00pm (FOX).

NCAA Football . The only game this week was an Armed Services event. Army defeated Navy 17-10 on Saturday. On Saturday, December 29th #2 Clemson will take on #3 Notre Dame in the first semifinal of the CFP in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl at 4:00pm (ESPN). #4 Oklahoma plays #1 Alabama at 8:00pm in the Capital One Orange Bowl to finish off the mathup in the national championship (ESPN).

NBA . The Pacers will host the Washington Wizards tonight at Bankers Life at 7:00pm. Indiana is 16-10 and 8-4 at home.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The big story this weekend was the fall of #1 Gonzaga on Sunday to the #7 Vols of Tennessee 76-73. Admiral Schofield led all scorers with 30 points in the win. Kansas will most likely top the rankings today as the new top team in the nation.

NHL . Boston took down the Senators 2-1 in overtime on Sunday while New Jersey lost to Anaheim in a shootout 6-5.

Soccer . After Week 16 in the EPL, Liverpool still sits atop the table by one point over Manchester City with one game left today between Everton and Watford.Golf . Jon Rahm won the Hero World Challenge this weekend at Albany. Rahm took home $1 million with a 4 stroke win over Tony Finau.

Weekend Recap: Wrestling Super Duals at Elwood

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Mississinewa competed in the Elwood Super Duals on Saturday. In Round One the Indians defeated Speedway 63-3. Ole Miss continued the success through Rounds Two and Three beating Brebeuf (57-11) and Cristo Rey (60-15). The Indians lost in the Final Round to Greencastle 44-30.

MHS Girls Basketball . On Friday, the Lady Indians hosted CIC opponent Eastbrook at Mississinewa High School. Coach Tandy and the team won 62-38. Caily Bolser scored 28 points with 11 boards and 6 blocks in the win. Riley McKee scored 13 points for the Lady Indians. The junior varsity had a solo-game at Caston on Saturday and picked up a win 33-24.

MHS Boys Basketball . First year Coach James Reed and the Indians played their first contest at home on Saturday against Northwestern. The Indians lost 51-46. Tai McClung had 15 points in the game to lead scoring for Mississinewa. The junior varsity squad won 58-47 with three players scoring in double figures.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball will play at Blackford tonight at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Colts 6-0 this weekend. Indy is now 6-6 on the season. Andrew Luck threw for 248 yards with an interception. All scoring came from the Jaguars kicking.

NCAA Football . The final CFP Rankings are out and Alabama is at the top followed by Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated Texas on Saturday 39-27 in the Big12 Championship. Alabama took down Georgia in the SEC, and Clemson handled Pitt in the ACC. Despite UCF winning the AAC Championship and remaining perfect, they did not make the playoffs finishing with a CFP ranking at #8.

NBA . The Pacers lost to the Kings over the weekend 111-110. Indiana is back in action on Tuesday against Chicago at 7:00pm.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #1 Gonzaga won big over the weekend over Creighton 103-92. Kansas and Duke also reeled in wins. The Big10 featured #7 Michigan and #19 Purdue on Saturday. The Wolverines grabbed the win 76-57.

NHL . The big result in hockey on Sunday was the shootout win from Mark Scheifele and the Jets over the New York Rangers 4-3.

Soccer . Cross-town rivalries heated up in the EPL this weekend. Arsenal took Spurs 4-2, Chelsea shutout Fulham 2-0, and Liverpool edged Everton 1-0. Manchester City sits atop the table with 38 points and a 2 point edge over Liverpool. Across town, the Red Devils of United are struggling with only 14 points and a minus-one goal differential.

Golf . Jon Rahm won the Hero World Challenge this weekend at Albany. Rahm took home $1 million with a 4 stroke win over Tony Finau.
