RJB Boys Basketball open season with wins!

Tribe Sports Report

RJB Boys Basketball . The 7th Grade boys basketball team opened up the evening with a win at Frankton 36-35. Betts lead the junior Indians with 13 points. Hoppes had 9 points. The 8th grade team also won 37-20 with Ancil scoring 17 points and Asbury adding 10 points.

Tonight’s Events . Girls Basketball travels to Bluffton for a 6:00pm JV tip against the Tigers. Watch the Lady Indians tonight live on YouTube provided by TribeTV.


Today’s Sports Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Notre Dame defeated Mt. Saint Marys 88-62.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State moves to 2-0 as they defeated Missouri State 70-58.

The big event for the night is the Champions Classic Men’s Basketball held in Chicago as Duke (1) faces off against Michigan State (2) at 7:00pm on ESPN. Kansas (4) will take the court at 9:30pm agains the Kentucky Wildcats (7).

Butche Places Fifth, Indians Host Sectional Championship

Cross Country . Brennan Butche ran for the second straight year at the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals in Terre Haute this past Saturday. Butche placed 5th (15:30) while representing Mississinewa, his team, and family with total class. Congratulations Brennan on another fantastic year.

Football . The Mississinewa Indians defeated the Marion Giants for the first time in history at Fisher Field on Friday 21-14. The last meeting between these two teams was in 1974. Senior Cade McCoin had two passing touchdowns (Heisman Skeens and Cade Campbell), and he ran one in himself. Freshman kicker Andre Sallade kicked three PAT’s. The Indian’s defense made huge plays including fumble recoveries by Drew Castanon, Hunter Smalley, and Tobias Mead.

Girls Basketball . First year coach Omega Tandy and the Lady Indians open up play on their new court Wednesday with a scrimmage against Tipton (6:00pm, Live on MCSC Athletics YouTube). Their first official game is at Kokomo Taylor on Saturday.

RJB Basketball . Boys Basketball practice this week opens with 8th graders, daily, from 5:00-7:00pm. The 7th grade team will practice from 7:00-9:00pm.

Football Tickets . Pre-Sale tickets will again be available starting Tuesday, October 31 for this Friday’s Sectional Championship against Western. Tickets can be purchased at Mississinewa High School’s Main Office daily from 7:30am to 3:00pm. Deadline for Pre-Sale purchase is Friday, October 3 at Noon. Tickets may be purchased at the gate on Friday. Gates will open at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports Update

MLB . The Houston Astros defeated the Dodgers last night 13-12 in extra innings to take a 3-2 lead in the World Series. Game Six will be played in Los Angeles on Tuesday at 8:20pm (Fox) featuring Justin Verlander and Rich Hill.

NFL . Cincinnati defeated the Colts 24-23. Jacoby Brissett was 25-39 with one big Bengals interception late in the game.

NBA . The Indiana Pacers hosted the San Antonio Spurs and were victorious 97-94 led by Victor Oladipo’s 23 points on 7/14 shooting.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The latest AP Coaches Poll Top Five includes Duke, Michigan State, Kansas, Kentucky, and Arizona. Pre-Season top team Duke opens Friday, November 10 with a non-conference game against Elon. Local teams opening games are listed below:

  • Indiana vs. Indiana State . Friday, 11/10 . 7:00pm
  • Purdue vs. SIU-Edwardsville . Friday, 11/10 . 7:00pm

Golf & Tennis Drop CIC Match-Ups

Boys Golf competed against county and CIC opponent Oak Hill last night losing 185-170. Mississinewa was led by Josh Dakin (39) who was two shots off the medalist Adam McDivitt (37), followed by Breyton Berryhill (47), Braden Henry (48), and Doak Labarr (51). The JV also lost with A.J. Cragun and Devon Dill shooting a 64, and Wesley Steely topped the JV shooting 55. Boys Golf compete next at the Taylor Invitational this Saturday at 9:00am.

Madison Grant defeated our Lady Indian Golfers last night 4-1. Here is Coach Bruce Fleming on the action, “Haleigh Rowley gave the Indians a quick and short-lived lead with her victory at #1 singles.  Madison Grant immediately tied the score with a win at #3 singles.  The second sets at the remaining three positions were competitive but all favoring the more experienced Argyles.” JV also lost 5-3. Heavyn Miller was the only Singles winner. Tennis is now 7-3 on the season (1-1 CIC) and will play in the Peru Invitational on Saturday.

Batch Ceesay signed last night his commitment to Bluffton College to play basketball and continue his academic career. Congratulations to Batch and his family!
