Weekend Recap: Wrestling Super Duals at Elwood

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Mississinewa competed in the Elwood Super Duals on Saturday. In Round One the Indians defeated Speedway 63-3. Ole Miss continued the success through Rounds Two and Three beating Brebeuf (57-11) and Cristo Rey (60-15). The Indians lost in the Final Round to Greencastle 44-30.

MHS Girls Basketball . On Friday, the Lady Indians hosted CIC opponent Eastbrook at Mississinewa High School. Coach Tandy and the team won 62-38. Caily Bolser scored 28 points with 11 boards and 6 blocks in the win. Riley McKee scored 13 points for the Lady Indians. The junior varsity had a solo-game at Caston on Saturday and picked up a win 33-24.

MHS Boys Basketball . First year Coach James Reed and the Indians played their first contest at home on Saturday against Northwestern. The Indians lost 51-46. Tai McClung had 15 points in the game to lead scoring for Mississinewa. The junior varsity squad won 58-47 with three players scoring in double figures.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball will play at Blackford tonight at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Colts 6-0 this weekend. Indy is now 6-6 on the season. Andrew Luck threw for 248 yards with an interception. All scoring came from the Jaguars kicking.

NCAA Football . The final CFP Rankings are out and Alabama is at the top followed by Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated Texas on Saturday 39-27 in the Big12 Championship. Alabama took down Georgia in the SEC, and Clemson handled Pitt in the ACC. Despite UCF winning the AAC Championship and remaining perfect, they did not make the playoffs finishing with a CFP ranking at #8.

NBA . The Pacers lost to the Kings over the weekend 111-110. Indiana is back in action on Tuesday against Chicago at 7:00pm.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . #1 Gonzaga won big over the weekend over Creighton 103-92. Kansas and Duke also reeled in wins. The Big10 featured #7 Michigan and #19 Purdue on Saturday. The Wolverines grabbed the win 76-57.

NHL . The big result in hockey on Sunday was the shootout win from Mark Scheifele and the Jets over the New York Rangers 4-3.

Soccer . Cross-town rivalries heated up in the EPL this weekend. Arsenal took Spurs 4-2, Chelsea shutout Fulham 2-0, and Liverpool edged Everton 1-0. Manchester City sits atop the table with 38 points and a 2 point edge over Liverpool. Across town, the Red Devils of United are struggling with only 14 points and a minus-one goal differential.

Golf . Jon Rahm won the Hero World Challenge this weekend at Albany. Rahm took home $1 million with a 4 stroke win over Tony Finau.

Lady Indians roll past Raiders

MHS Girls Basketball . Coach Tandy and the Lady Indians hosted the Southern Wells Raiders last night and cruised to a 78-23 win in the varsity-only event. Caily Bolser scored 21 points with 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. Tyler Bartel added 14 to the scoring sheet while Riley McKee added 12 and Mia Catey scored 10 to round out the bulk of the points for the team. Mississinewa faces Eastbrook at home on Friday for a Central Indiana Conference matchup at 6:00pm. 

MHS Boys Basketball . Mississinewa traveled to the Castle at Ossian last night to play the Norwell Knights. The varsity team lost 61-55 as did the C-team, 47-19. The junior varsity squad picked up a win 57-27. Dakota Ancil led the team with 11 points while Bryce Luedtke added 10 for the JV win. Statistics were not available for the varsity contest. The Indians host Northwestern on Saturday at 6:00pm.

Tonight’s Events . RJB Girls Basketball will travel to Alexandria tonight at 5:30pm, while the Boys will host the Tigers at 6:00pm.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . ICYMI The Indianapolis Colts are at Jacksonville on Sunday in Week 13 for a 1:00pm kickoff.

NCAA Football . ICYMI #1 Alabama and #5 Georgia headline Week 14 in Atlanta. That game is on CBS at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 1st and could have major implications in the playoff rankings.

NBA . Indiana picked up another win last night 109-104 over the Phoenix Suns. Sabonis and McDermott both scored 21 points to lead the Pacers.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The Duke Blue Devils rolled past Indiana last night 90-69 in their leg of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Michigan State lost in overtime to Louisville, and Notre Dame picked up a two-point victory over Illinois. #19 Purdue plays #15 Florida State tonight at 9:15pm on ESPN2. Virginia faces Maryland, and the Michigan Wolverines will battle the Tar Heels to round out the big games of the evening.

NHL . Last night’s winners in the NHL were Buffalo, Ottawa, Carolina, Anaheim, Colorado, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, and Edmonton. The Kings picked up a win in overtime against the Vancouver Canucks 2-1.

Soccer . Manchester United defeated the Young Boys in Group H of the Champions League yesterday 1-0. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid won, while Manchester City took a draw against Lyon. Barcelona, Tottenham, and Liverpool are among the teams who are showcased today.

Golf . ICYMI The PGA Tour continues for 2018-2019 with the Hero World Challenge starting Thursday. Last year’s winner was Rickie Fowler.

Indians drop opener to Vikes, Girls Hoops hosts Bellmont

MHS Boys Basketball . The Indians were on the road on Saturday evening in Viking country. Huntington North took an 8 point lead in the first quarter and held the lead until the end. The Indians lost 56-50 on the road. Anthony Horton scored 18 to lead the Indians in their season opener. Landon Swanner added 12 along with 8 from Cade Campbell.  The JV team opened the season with a 45-21 loss to the Vikings. Kreigh Young led the team with 9 points. Mississinewa is on the road Tuesday at Norwell High School in Ossian.

Tonight’s Events . The 4-3 Lady Indians will host Bellmont at 6:00pm. Coach Curt Funk and the Indian Wrestlers travel to Marion at 6:00pm for a season opening match with the Giants.

Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts defeated Miami on Sunday 27-24. Andrew Luck threw 30-37 for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns. T.Y. Hilton caught 7 passes for 125 yards.

NCAA Football . The big game was the 7-overtime thriller where Texas A&M took down #7 LSU 74-72. #10 Ohio State rolled past #4 Michigan 62-39, and #3 Notre Dame took down rival USC 24-17. Clemson and Alabama walked away in Week 13 with wins as well.

NBA . Indiana travels to Utah tonight with an 11-8 record to face the Jazz. Bojan Bogdanovic is in the spotlight for the Pacers as he averages 15.6 points per game.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The big story this week is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Key games to watch are the Duke Blue Devils taking on the Indiana Hoosiers on Tuesday at 9:30pm (ESPN), and a huge pair of battles on Wednesday pitting Purdue against Florida State while Michigan will take on North Carolina.

NHL . Hockey season is in full swing. Calgary defeated Arizona last night 6-1 while three other games played late.

Soccer . Manchester City sits atop the EPL table after a 4-0 win over West Ham this weekend. David Silva scored the winning goal in the 11th minute. Leroy Sane added a pair in the contest. The Major League Soccer finals played out Sunday night. Portland and Kansas City were tied in the 26th minute at time of publication, while Atlanta defeated New York 3-0.
