Reminder from Athletic Director Chanse Young, all spring athletes must have a physical on file in the front office before they can participate, try-out, and work with the Spring teams.

RJB Soccer . In case you missed the Call-Out Meeting this morning at R.J. Baskett Middle School, please contact Coach Kaleigh South for questions regarding the upcoming season.

MHS Baseball . Try-outs for the 2018 Mississinewa High School Baseball team will begin Monday, March 12th at 7:00pm in the Auxiliary Gym. Please contact Coach Mike Scott for more information.

This Weekend’s Events . MHS Track & Field will participate in their second Indoor Meet at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday beginning 9:00am. The teams open up the season next Wednesday at 5:00pm with a home meet against Southwood.


Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Tour . Jimmy Walker leads at the Valspar Championship at five under as Round Two launches today. Tiger Woods is currently tied for 3rd.

NASCAR . The Monster Energy Cup sets it’s sights on the Phoenix International Raceway this Sunday, March 11. Racing begins at 3:30pm.

MLB . Just a reminder that Opening Day in the Major League is Thursday, March 29th.

NBA . The Atlanta Hawks will be visiting the Pacers tonight for a 7:00pm tip. Indiana is the huge favorite in this match-up. Victor Oladipo leads the team with 23.8 points per game this season.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Butler defeated Seton Hall to advance in the Big East Tournament 75-74. Ball State lost to Kent State 76-73. Duke defeated Notre Dame easily last night 88-70 to advance to the third meeting with North Carolina in the ACC Tournament tonight at 9:00pm on ESPN. The Selection Show will launch this Sunday at 6:00pm on TBS. Stream the show live here.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Antelope Valley 87-76 yesterday. The Wildcats will now play IU Southeast today at 5:00pm in the Round of 16.

NAIA Women’s Basketball . Taylor will face Concordia today at 11:15am in the Second Round as the Lady Wildcats will play Southeastern at 1:00pm in the Round of 16.

MHS Softball . Try-outs started Monday, March 5th for the 2018 season. Practices are continuing all week beginning at 7:00pm. Please contact Coach Steve Miller for questions or concerns.

This Week’s Events . The 6th grade basketball season continues with several contests this week. RJB wrestling reaches the midpoint of their season. Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Tour . The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook begins today in Florida. The defending champ is Adam Hadwin. Tiger Woods is playing the first two rounds with Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson. The trio begins play at 12:46 today.

NBA . The Utah Jazz defeated the Pacers last night 104-84. Myles Turner had 24 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Rudy Gobert led the Jazz with 23. Indiana is now 37-28 on the season.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Notre Dame defeated Virginia Tech 71-65 in the ACC Men’s Tournament last night. Matt Farrell had 22 points for the Irish. Notre Dame will now face Duke in the Quarterfinals tonight at 7:00pm on ESPN. Ball State takes on Kent State in the MAC Quarterfinals today at 2:30pm, and the struggling Butler Bulldogs will play Seton Hall in the quarters of the Big East Tournament.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State lost to Western Michigan last night in the Quarterfinals of the MAC Lady’s Tournament 65-54.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats face Antelope Valley today in the Round of 32. Game time is set for 1:00pm.

NAIA Women’s Basketball . The Taylor Lady Trojans defeated Northwest Christian 61-54 last night. Indiana Wesleyan also won 78-65 over Olivet. Taylor will face Concordia on Friday at 11:15am in the Second Round as the Lady Wildcats will play Southeastern at 1:00pm in the Round of 16.

Football takes First in 7th Annual Weight Bash

MHS Football . The Indians took first place last night in the 7th annual Spring Bash weight lifting event which reflects similar events to the NFL combine. Heisman Skeens took first place overall in the 40 yard dash. Skylar Tackett won first place in overall weight on the bench press. Six Indians placed in the top ten in coefficient on the bench press. Jason Arbogast and Skylar Tackett placed top ten in coefficient in the rack. Andruw Cruz won first place overall in the power clean. Mississinewa had 23 football players in the top 65 finishers for the entire event.

PGA Tour . Phil Mickelson won the World Golf Championships in Mexico this past weekend earning $1.7 million. Mickelson defeated Justin Thomas in a playoff on Hole 17. The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook is this weekend in Florida. The defending champ is Adam Hadwin.

Isaac Haas had 23 points for Purdue. Notre Dame takes on Pitt today at 2:00pm in the ACC Men’s Tournament at New York Life. That game can be seen on ESPN2.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Butler Lady Bulldogs lost in the Big East quarterfinals to Marquette 73-61. #5 Notre Dame battled #4 Louisville, but the Irish lost 74-72 in the ACC Women’s Final.

Championship Recap, Indian Track at IWU

MHS Boys Basketball . The Mississinewa Boys Basketball team fell short of it’s first sectional title since 1954 on Saturday, losing to Marion 57-54 in an amazing game. Jerod May led the Indians with 21 points, breaking the 1000 point mark with his final three-point attempt of the night as he was being fouled. Anthony Horton also had a big night with 18 points.

MHS Track & Field . The Indians opened up a pair of Indoor Track Meets at IWU this past weekend. Brennan Butche won the 3200m (9:30.86) with a school record. The 4x200m boys team of Quakenbush, Sallade, Standridge, and Mead placed 4th (1:38.36). Carli Fones won the 60m dash (8.19). Beth Lucas placed 10th (10.68) in the 60m hurdles. The girls 4x200m of Lucas, Webb, Hasty, and Fones placed 9th (2:01.80). Finally, the girls 4x400m of Fones, Webb, Lucas, and Dawson placed 8th (4:47.67). The Indians return to IWU for another Indoor Meet this Saturday.
