Indians Baseball starts 2-1 over break

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Baseball . In case you missed it, the Indians started the season on Saturday with a sweep of Cowan in a double header. Last night, the Indians traveled to Adams Central and lost 14-4. Easton Burton went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Owen Felver and Colin Yoder added RBI’s. Jakob, Campbell, and Maddox all made appearances on the mound.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians opened up their season hosting a scrimmage last night against Pendelton Heights. The team officially opens up play on Wednesday at Marion.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Track and Field host Burris and Anderson Prep tonight at 5:00pm. The weather does not look good for this event as strong storms are expected to roll in this afternoon. Follow MCSC Athletics for important weather updates on Facebook and Twitter.


Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Villanova defeated Michigan last night 79-62 to claim the NCAA Division One Men’s Basketball crown. Donte DiVincenzo scored 31 points for Villanova.

NBA . Indiana faces Denver tonight at 9:00pm. The Pacers are 46-31.

NASCAR . After a week off in the Monster Energy Cup Series, the racing picks up on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway at 2:00pm on Fox Sports One.

PGA Golf . The Masters Tournament kicks off on Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club on ESPN. Sergio Garcia is the defending champion.

MLB . The season is in full swing now with many teams completing their first series of the year. Yesterday’s winners include the Tigers defeating the Royals 6-1, St. Louis winning 8-4 over the Brewers, the Cubs lost to the Reds 1-0, and Cleveland defeated the Angels 6-0.

Indians prepare for Spring Break

Tribe Sports Report

Mississinewa High School Spring Athletics Media Day will be Wednesday, March 21. Local media and yearbook pictures will be taken. Yearbook photos will be done in the upper cafeteria, and media outlets will be set up in the gymnasium. Order forms will be available from all coaches and the main office.

By now all athletes should have an athletic physical for spring sports on file in the Athletic’s Office of Mississinewa High School. Coaches are planning for summer events and will have schedules out for everyone interested in summer activities.

Don’t forget that the IPH Fieldhouse is open during the summer, and athlete strength and performance training is held each morning. Official times will be released very soon. The fieldhouse will be open from 10:00am until noon from Monday, March 26 through Friday, March 30. See Coach Holloway for questions concerning Spring Break training hours.

The Tribe Sports Report and Tribe Sports Daily will be taking a break until the launch of the official Spring sports season. The blog and daily show produced by TribeTV will be back on Tuesday, April 3.

Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The Round of 64 got underway yesterday with the only big upset being Buffalo defeating Arizona 89-68. #2 Purdue takes on Cal State Fullerton at 12:40pm today, and Butler will take on the #7 seed Arkansas at 3:10pm. The overall #1 seed, Virginia will launch it’s campaign against Maryland-Baltimore County at 9:20pm tonight.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State won their first game in the NIT as did Purdue and Indiana.

NBA . The Pacers lost to the Raptors 106-99 last night. Darren Collison scored 22 points for Indiana who fall to 40-29.

NASCAR . The Auto Club Speedway will host the Monster Energy Series at California on Sunday, March 18. Racing begins at 3:30pm on Fox.

PGA Golf . Hernik Stenson leads the field at the Arnold Palmer after shooting 8 under par. Tiger Woods tees off today at 1:00pm at 4 under.

MLB . The Chicago Cubs will be the first game to start on Opening Day of the 2018 season on Thursday, March 29 at 12:30pm as they travel to Miami. The game will be live on ESPN. Jon Lester is slated to start on the mound. Other games on Opening Day that are available on ESPN are Houston and Texas, San Francisco at Los Angeles, and Cleveland at Seattle.

Reminder from Athletic Director Chanse Young, all spring athletes must have a physical on file in the front office before they can participate, try-out, and work with the Spring teams.

Ole Miss Youth Sports . Tri-County Girls Softball Try-outs will be on Saturday, March 17 at 3:00pm in the Auxiliary Gym at Mississinewa High School. Gregg Stepp is the contact for this event at 765-251-1175.

MHS Softball . JV Softball games with Wes-Del and Cass have been cancelled for this season due to a lack of players from the other schools.

MHS Baseball . The JV Baseball game with Southern Wells on April 23 has been cancelled.

 

Tonight’s Events . There are no events until after Spring Break for Mississinewa Athletics.


Today’s Sports World Update

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Butler and Purdue were the only two Indiana-based teams to make the field and will play on Friday. The field of 64 is set for March Madness as #10 Oklahoma faces off against #7 Rhode Island in the opening game today at 12:15pm in the Midwest Region at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. This first game is live on CBS. Fans can watch the all the games on truTV, CBS, TNT, and TBS along with the NCAA March Madness on Demand app or online.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State, Purdue, and Indiana will open up action in the Women’s NIT today. Notre Dame, who received a number one seed in the Women’s NCAA tournament will play on Friday at 5:00pm.

NBA . Indiana will play the Raptors tonight at 7:00pm. Victor Oladipo continues to lead the Pacers with 23.6 points per game. Indiana is 40-28 heading into tonight’s contest at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.

PGA Golf . The Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill has begun. Marc Leishman is the reigning champ. This weekend’s purse is $8.9 million. Tiger Woods had his opening swing at 8:23am. The final group will tee off around 2:10pm.

IWU Division II Title Recap, Opening Dates for Spring Sports

Reminder from Athletic Director Chanse Young, all spring athletes must have a physical on file in the front office before they can participate, try-out, and work with the Spring teams.

MHS Baseball . Opening day for Indians baseball is March 31 when the team travels to Cowan for a 10am game. The first home game is April 4 against Yorktown.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians will host Marion for a scrimmage on March 31 at 11:00am. Opening day for softball is April 4 at Wapahani with the first home game coming on Saturday, April 7.

MHS Track & Field . On Tuesday, April 3 Anderson Prep and Muncie Burris will be at Mississinewa for the first track meet of the 2018 spring season. Events begin at 5:00pm.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians will hold a scrimmage against Pendelton Heights on Monday, April 2 with the first match being played at Marion that Wednesday at 5:00pm.

MHS Boys Golf . The Indians will hit the links on Thursday, April 12 at 5:00pm as they host Southern Wells to open the season. Mississinewa home matches are played at Shady Hills Golf Course.

Tonight’s Events . The RJB Wrestling team will travel to Oak Hill for the CIC wrestling meet. Action on the mat starts at 5:00pm.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats won the NAIA Division 2 National Championship last night defeating Saint Francis 84-71. Kyle Mangas was the tournament’s most valuable player. Head Coach Greg Tonagel was named the NAIA Division 2 National Coach of the Year and NABC NAIA  Coach of the Year. The title was the Wildcat’s third national title in five years. Kyle Mangas scored 23 points to lead Indiana Wesleyan, and Derek Hinen scored 24 points for Saint Francis. The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats will host a reception for the team this evening in Luckey Arena. Follow @IWUWildcats on social media for updates on this event.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Notre Dame won over Hampton 84-63 in the NIT First Round. Radford will advance to face Villanova as the “First Four” games launched the beginning of March Madness last night. UCLA also lost to the Bonnies of Saint Bonnaventure who will face Florida in the NCAA Round of 64. Butler and Purdue were the only two Indiana-based teams to make the field and will play on Friday.

Track Opens Season on Wednesday

Tonight’s Events . 6th grade Girls Basketball travels to Wabash for a 5:30 game. MHS Track and Field officially opens their season on Wednesday as they host Southwood at 5:00pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Tour . Paul Casey won the Valspar Championship on Sunday with a score of 10 under. Tiger Woods made a run on the winner on hole 17 with a birdie to put him within one shot. Tiger came up short on 18 with a very long miss that would have forced a play-off.

NASCAR . Kevin Harvick won for the third straight time at Phoenix this weekend in the Monster Energy Cup.

MLB . Just a reminder that Opening Day in the Major League is Thursday, March 29th.

NBA . The Pacers defeated the Boston Celtics 99-97 yesterday. Victor Oladipo scored 27 points to lead Indiana.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Butler and Purdue were the only Indiana teams to make the field of 64 for the NCAA Men’s Tournament. The Boilermakers will play Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 12:40pm on TruTV while Butler will face a very tough Arkansas team on Friday at 3:30pm.
