Indian Nation says goodbye to a legend

This Special Report was written by the Tribe Sports Network Director Ryan Scott. Photo by Mississinewa Photographer John Carper.

The Mississinewa Community says goodbye to a man that coached 36 years for the Mississinewa football team who won 211 games for the Indians, 13 Conference Championships, four Sectionals, and one Regional Championship. Charlie Fisher won more games and coached longer, than anyone in Mississinewa’s history. He was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Charlie was an outstanding athlete at Evansville Reitz High School winning 13 letters in track, basketball, football, and baseball. He was selected to the All-Indiana High School Football team two consecutive years. The football team, with Charlie as quarterback, was listed in Indiana’s Top Ten High School Teams. Charlie received a football scholarship from Indiana University that led Fisher to the Big Ten. After his freshman year he left IU to attend the University of Evansville where he was honored as a member of the Ohio Valley All-Conference Team. Completing his degree at University of Evansville, he signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns as a halfback. Charlie served his Gas City Community for more than 50 years. Charlie will be missed so much by the Mississinewa family.
