Baseball wins big, Tennis still perfect in conference, Boys Golf over the Argylls

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians were on the road last night in Hartford City to take on Blackford in their 4th CIC contest. Mississinewa won 5-0, keeping them perfect in the conference and moving them to 9-1 on the season. Tyra Stanley won 6-1, 6-0 to stay undefeated this year. Coach Fleming and the Lady Indians host South Adams and Mount Vernon on Saturday.

 

MHS Baseball . Mississinewa scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the game early with a 17-7 win over the Southern Wells Raiders. The Indians scored in every inning last night. Three Indians pitched last night. Seth Maddox earned the win after 3 innings pitched. Hunter Smalley and Cade McCoin held the win on the mound for Maddox. Landen Swanner was 3-5 at the plate with a run and 2 RBIs. Cade McCoin was 2-3 with a triple and scored 4 times. Easton Burton and Jalen Martin hit home runs for Mississinewa. The Indians are now 2-2 in the conference and 9-6 overall.

MHS Boys Golf . Coach Reed, the new varsity boys basketball coach at Mississinewa, and the Indians teed off against Madison Grant at Shady Hills last night and won 161-208. Josh Dakin and Ty Corey shot a 39 to lead Mississinewa, followed by Breyton Berryhill (40) and Justin Dakin (43).

Tonight’s Events . Boys Golf competes in the 3rd annual match-play event with Eastbrook at Arbor Trace tonight at 4:30pm. Baseball travels to Elwood for a CIC game at 5:00pm. JV and Varsity Softball head to Elwood as well with the first pitch of their double-header at 5:00pm. RJB Baseball hosts McCulloch at 5:00pm. RJB Track and Field will run at Kokomo tonight beginning at 5:00pm. RJB Soccer hosts Eastbrook at Mississinewa High School starting at 6:00pm.

PGA Tour . Rory McIlroy is two-under in the opening round at Quail Hollow today for the Wells Fargo Championship.

NBA . Utah won game two of the Western Conference Semifinals at Houston last night 116-108. Joe Ingles led the Jazz with 27 points. The Eastern Conference will tip for Game Two of both series tonight as Cleveland plays at Toronto and Boston hosts Philadelphia.

NASCAR . On Sunday, the Monster Energy Series will race at Dover International Speedway. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Fox Sports One.

NHL . Tampa Bay defeated Boston 4-1 last night to take a 2-1 edge over the Bruins. San Jose shut out Las Vegas with a 4-0 win. That series is now tied at two games apiece. Washington plays at Pittsburgh tonight up 2-1, and Nashville faces Winnipeg.

Tyra Stanley stays undefeated, CIC action on the diamonds at MHS, 4×800 record broken

MHS Girls Tennis . Coach Fleming and the Lady Indians picked up a CIC win last night against Alexandria 4-1. Tyra Stanley moved to 12-0 on the season, and the Singles spots swept the Tigers. The Doubles matches were split 1-1. Mississinewa is now 3-0 in the conference and 8-1 on the season heading into another CIC clash with the Blackford Bruins in Hartford City tonight.

MHS Track & Field . The boys track team came in second last night as Oak Hill won the meet 84.5-34-28.5. Alexandria came in last in the boys event. The 4x800m team of Jacob Ehmer, Zak Huffman, Cory Quakenbush, and Brennan Butche broke the school record with a time of 8:32.83. Tabias Mead won the 100m, Butche won the 800m, Gage Peterson won the 200m, and the 4x100m team came in first in that relay.

The Lady Indians track also came in second to Oak Hill 87.5-48-22.5 last night. Beth Lucas won both hurdles events. Carlie Fones won the 100m and 200m sprints.

MHS Baseball . Mississinewa lost last night to the Frankton Eagles in CIC action at home 10-3. Frankton opened the game with a 4-run first inning, and then added 3 more runs in the top of the third to jump out to a big lead. Conner Fritch took the loss on the mound pitching 3 innings and giving away 7 runs on 6 hits and a walk. Jalen Martin finished the game for the Indians striking out 3, but giving up 3 runs on 4 innings pitched. Cade McCoin was 1-1 on 3 plate appearances. Seth Maddox added the only other Indian hit of the game. Landen Swanner was credited with Mississinewa’s only RBI of the game.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians hosted Frankton last night and suffered a similar fate as the Indians Baseball team did. Mississinewa lost 8-2 in the varsity game of last night’s double-header. Cierra Vasquez was credited with the loss allowing 5 runs on 7 hits with 2 strikeouts. Jenna Berryhill also pitched allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Madison Stanley went 2-3 at the plate, and Shelby Goble knocked in 2 RBIs off of a double.

The JV team defeated Frankton in game two 9-2 in 5 innings to keep their successful season rolling. Ireland Thien picked up the win allowing only 1 hit while striking out 8. Justyce Moore was 2-3 with 3 RBIs, Kaycee Sands was 1-3 including a double with 2 RBIs, and Amaris Hickman rounded out the top plate appearances going 1-2 with a triple.

Schedule Updates . This Saturday, May 5th, Indians Baseball will fill some gaps in their schedule with more opportunities for success. The JV will host Bluffton at 10:00am followed by the Varsity taking on Wabash at noon.

Tonight’s Events . Baseball will host Southern Wells tonight in a non-conference game as the JV team travels to Madison Grant. Baseball action begins at 5:00pm. Girls Tennis serves up some action at Blackford tonight for another CIC match at 5:00pm. Boys Golf hosts Madison Grant at Shady Hills. Tee time is 4:30pm. The only R.J. Baskett event for this evening is RJB Softball taking on Northwestern at 5:30pm in the park.

NHL . Washington defeated Pittsburgh 4-3 last night. Nicklas Backstrom had 3 points. The Capitals lead 2 games to 1. Winnipeg won big over Nashville 7-4 with 3 players pulling in 3 points. The Jets lead 2 games to 1 in their series.

MHS Baseball . The Junior Varsity team fell to Oak Hill last night 15-5 at Atkinson Field. The Indians play Madison Grant on Wednesday in a rescheduled game, originally set for May 9th. First pitch is set for 5:00pm.

RJB Soccer . Mason Reel scored two goals to help lead the Junior Indians over the Eastern Comets last night 4-2. Lia Luchetti and Elliott Williams each added a goal in the win. Coach South and the team have a quick turn around as they play Eastbrook on Thursday at 6:00pm at Mississinewa High School.

Schedule Updates . This Saturday, May 5th, Indians Baseball will fill some gaps in their schedule with more opportunities for success. The JV will host Bluffton at 10:00am followed by the Varsity taking on Wabash at noon.

Tonight’s Events . Mississinewa Track & Field will host Oak Hill and Alexandria tonight at 5:00pm. Girls Tennis hosts the Alexandria Tigers also starting at 5:00pm. Baseball and softball will face Frankton starting at 5:30pm at Mississinewa High School. The JV softball team will play Frankton immediately following the varsity contest. RJB Softball faces Frankton, and RJB Baseball hosts Oak Hill in the Gas City Park tonight.

NHL . Tampa Bay defeated Boston last night 4-2. Brayden Point has a goal and 3 assists. The Las Vegas Knights won in overtime, defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in Game 3 of their series. Marc Andre Fluery had 39 saves. Tampa is tied with the Bruins 1-1. Vegas now takes a 2-1 advantage over the Sharks. Tonight Winnipeg hosts Nashville and Washington travels to Pittsburgh for Game 3 match-ups in both series. All NHL playoff games are televised on the NBC family of networks. Games tonight begin at 7:30pm.
