Indians defeat Titans, prep for sectional

Tribe Sports Report

Boys Basketball Sectional Tickets are available for pre-sale at the Mississinewa High School Main Office. Weekend tickets are $10.00. Single session tickets will only be available at the event when you arrive at Norwell High School. Single session tickets are $6.00. Pre-sale tickets are now available until noon on Tuesday, February 27.

Coach Evertts and the Indians will face Heritage in the 3A IHSAA Sectional at Norwell High School. The team will play at 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 27.

Any student interested in the TRAP team can attend an informational meeting on Monday, February 26 at 6:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Indians finish the season 14-8 after defeating the Taylor Titans 71-50. Jalen Martin scored 17 points with Thabit Gault adding 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jerod May is still edging his way toward his 1000th career point for the Indians with the Sectional looming on Tuesday. The JV team also won 67-55 at Mississinewa High School.

RJB Boys Basketball . The 6th grade A-Team defeated Riverview 40-22 led by 12 points from Burbank. The B-Team lost 28-19. Bosworth scored 6 points.

Tonight’s Events . There are no events for this Friday, but on Saturday RJB Wrestling will compete at the Oak Hill Invitational starting at 9:00am.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers return from the All-Star break to face the Atlanta Hawks tonight at 7:00pm. The Pacers are 33-25. Oklahoma City won on a buzzer beater by Russell Westbrook last night 110-107 over Sacramento, and a majority of the hometown crowd missed the big shot due to a local emergency broadcast test.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The #9 Purdue Boilermakers won 93-86 over Illinois. Carsen Edwards dropped 40 points on 11 of 19 shooting. Indiana faces Ohio State tonight and Ball State plays Western Michigan.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Notre Dame defeated Virginia Tech 89-59.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats will face Huntington on Saturday at 3:00pm in Marion.

NAIA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan face Taylor on Friday in the Semifinals of the Women’s Crossroads Tourney. That game will start at 7:00pm at Luckey Arena.

RJB Girls Basketball . The 6th grade team defeated Montpelier 39-22 with McCarty leading the team with 11 points.

Tonight’s Events . MHS Boys Basketball hosts the Taylor Titans at 6:00pm tonight in the season finale for the Indians. Fans can watch live on MCSC Athletics YouTube. RJB Boys Basketball will send their 6th grade team to Riverview for a 6:00pm contest.


Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics . The United States women’s hockey team defeated Canada last night to earn it’s first gold medal in 20 years. The game went into overtime and a shoot-out. Jamie Anderson won silver in snowboarding, the women earned silver in 2-man bobsled, and the women’s cross-country skiing team won it’s first ever gold medal. The U.S. moved into fourth place in the medal count while Norway tops the list with 33.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The #9 Purdue Boilermakers, at 24-5, take on Illinois tonight at 7:00pm on Fox Sports One.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Ball State Lady Cardinals continued their great season with a win over Western Michigan 85-58, and Purdue defeated Illinois 64-51. #5 Notre Dame faces Virginia Tech tonight at 7:00pm on the ACC Network.

NAIA Men’s Basketball . Indiana Wesleyan won big on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament 102-77 over the Taylor Trojans. The Wildcats will face Huntington on Saturday at 3:00pm in Marion.

NAIA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan slipped past Saint Francis on Tuesday 59-58 to face Taylor on Friday in the Semifinals of the Women’s Crossroads Tourney. That game will start at 7:00pm at Luckey Arena.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Indians traveled to New Castle’s Chrysler Fieldhouse last night to take on a very good Trojan team. The JV team was edged out 51-45 to move to 15-6 on the season. Colin Yoder had 19 points. The varsity Indians lost last night 88-52 as New Castle scored 57 second half points. Mississinewa is now 13-8 going into Thursday night’s home game against Taylor, and final game of the season. Jerod May has returned in good form for the Indians as he led the team with 18 points.

RJB Boys Basketball . The 6th grade A-team lost 58-29 to Justice last night. The B-Team also lost 40-22.

Tonight’s Events . RJB 6th grade Girls Basketball travels to Montpelier for a 5:30pm contest with the Spartans.

Winter Olympics . The United States Women’s Cross-Country Skiing won it’s first gold medal. Lindsey Vonn won bronze in Downhill Skiing. The Men’s Hockey team was eliminated from competition last night.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Ball State defeated Northern Illinois 77-68 last night. Trey Moses had 23 points in the Cardinals win. Butler defeated Creighton 93-70 led by 26 points from Kelan Martin. The Hoosiers ended a four-game win streak by losing to Nebraska 66-57. Justin Smith was the leading scorer for Indiana with 16 points.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Indiana Lady Hoosiers defeated Minnesota 82-70. Tonight, Purdue plays Illinois and Ball State faces Western Michigan at 7:00pm.

RJB Girls Basketball . The 6th grade Junior Lady Indians faced Crestview last night. The A-Team won 43-18 led by Morrison with 17 points. The B-Team lost 13-9. Browning had 7 points.

Tonight’s Events . RJB 6th grade Boys Basketball plays at Marion Justice at 6:00pm. The Boys Basketball team travels to New Castle for a 6:00pm tip against the Trojans.


Today’s Sports World Update

Winter Olympics . The United States Men’s Hockey team advanced to the semi-finals after beating Slovakia 5-1. The U.S. has five gold medals, twelve total. Events continue today including the finals in the Women’s Downhill Alpine Skiing.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . Notre Dame lost to Miami 77-74 yesterday. Ball State faces Northern Illinois tonight at 7:00pm on ESPN3. Butler will play Creighton on Fox Sports One, and Indiana will play Nebraska at 9:00pm on the Big Ten Network.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Hoosiers play Minnesota tonight at 8:00pm.

Quick Weekend Recap

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Wrestling . Kyler Funk fell in the first round of the IHSAA State Finals Friday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse to Cade Girgenti. Kyler wrestled in the 182 class on Mat 1 and went down early in the first bout with a Girgenti pin. Kyler represented Mississinewa extremely well, and is looking forward to two more years as an Indian.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Indians defeated the Eastbrook Panthers on Friday night 68-52. Thabit Gault scored 29 points to lead the Indians. On Saturday, the varsity squad traveled to Bluffton and picked up another weekend win defeating the Tigers 62-42. The Indians play at New Castle on Tuesday.

 

Tonight’s Events . RJB 6th grade Boys Basketball plays at Montpelier Middle School at 5:30pm. The 6th grade Girls host Crestview at 6:00pm.
