Indian Football sweeps the Panthers

Tribe Sports Report

RJB Cross Country . Noah Shafer placed 6th overall at Oak Hill last night for RJB cross country. Ian Davis placed 25th.

MHS Cross Country . The boys runners placed 3rd last night behind Oak Hill and Peru at the Oak Hill Invitational event. Jacob Ehmer ran at 19:46 for a 19th place finish to place at the top of the Indian runners. The Lady Indians did not have enough runners to compete for a team title. Carli Fones and Reagan Tippey finished in 17th and 18th place.

MHS Girls Golf . Girls golf defeated Alexandria in a CIC match at Shady Hills last night 201-220. Peighten Allen was the medalist at 44. Maggie LaBarr shot a 47.

RJB Football . The Junior Indians from RJ Baskett brought home two wins against Elwood. The 7th grade won 22-0, and the 8th grade defeated the Panthers 28-22. Jayden Crick had 3 touchdowns including 2 kick-returns and a QB run. Hayden Nelson added a touchdown in the 8th grade contest. Nolan Quaderer ran for a touchdown alongside Deakon Dilts.

MHS C-Team Football . The Indians defeated Elwood last night 38-0. Carter Burton had 2 touchdowns and 2 two-point conversions. Lucas Bennett added a touchdown along with another two-point conversion on a pass from Landry Rock. Rock ran for a score as well as adding yet another two-point score. Gage Landis made an interception for the defensive side. Carter Burton recovered a fumble and ran the ball in for a touchdown to round out the scoring for the Indians.

Tonight’s Events . Girls golf tees off today at 4:30pm against South Adams at Shady Hills. Boys tennis hosts Maconaquah at 5:00pm. Boys soccer travels to Muncie Central for a 5:30pm first-touch while the Lady Indians host the Bearcats at 6:00pm. Volleyball will make the short trip to Fairmount to face the Madison Grant Argylls in a CIC match at 6:00pm. RJB volleyball hosts the Junior Argylls at 6:00pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . Tomorrow, the NFL season enters week one of the 2018 season as the Atlanta Falcons travel to Philadelphia. The season kicks-off at 8:30pm on NBC. The Colts will host Cincinnati on Sunday at 1:00pm in their season opener.

MLB . St. Louis defeated the Nationals last night 11-8. Pittsburgh won 7-3 over the Reds. The Cleveland Indians beat Kansas City 9-3. Detroit won 8-3 over the White Sox, and the Cubs lost to the Brewers 11-1.

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Volleyball . The Lady Indians competed in the Kay Saunders Tournament at Wes-Del on Saturday. Mississinewa defeated Tipton but lost to Wes-Del. No official results were submitted to the media.

MHS Boys Tennis . Coach Fleming and the Indians competed at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational on Saturday. Mississinewa lost 5-0 to No. 9 Cathedral, No. 15 Concord, and Canterbury. The team’s record is now 6-6 on the season with Maconaquah next on the season.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 7.39.10 AMMHS Cross Country . Brennan Butche ran 15:56.9 in the Elite Race at the Marion Invitational on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan. That was good enough for a 3rd place finish. The boys competed in the Purple (big school) Race and finished 4th out of 11 teams. Raven Fisher (20), Colin Coffey (23), Jon Alsup (24), Jacob Ehmer (27), and Zak Huffman (33) were all medalists.

The girls ran in the same category and placed 6th out of 9 teams. Aurora Fisher finished 4th. Carli Fones (20) and Raegan Tippey (26) were the medalists for the Lady Indians.

MHS Girls Soccer . The Lady Indians won their first match of the season on Saturday at Whitko 4-1. Beth Lucas recorded a hat trick, and Taylor Ulerick added the fourth goal for the Lady Indians.

MHS Football . The Indians defeated Elwood on Friday 62-7. Heisman Skeens ran the opening touchdown back for a touchdown. Skeens rushed for another TD, and passed for two scores. Cade Campbell had four touchdowns on the game, and Carson Campbell added two. Junior Kyler Funk recovered a fumble on defense.

Tonight’s Events . RJB and MHS cross country fire up the week with a race tonight at Oak Hill starting at 4:30pm. Girls golf will host Alexandria at Shady Hills at 5:00pm. RJB football will travel with the junior varsity Indians to Elwood tonight. The junior high game will be at 5:30pm followed by the JV at 7:00pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Golf . Bryson DeChambeau shot 16-under to edge out Justin Rose by two strokes at the Dell Technologies Championship this weekend. Tiger Woods shot 7-under.

NCAA Football . Wisconsin, Michigan State, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, and No. 1 Alabama were among the winners in week one of the NCAA Football season. No. 9 Auburn defeated No. 6 Washington 21-16 in perhaps the toughest match-up of the weekend. Indiana Wesleyan lost the historic “First Game” at Wildcat Stadium to the Taylor Trojans.

Premiere League Soccer . Manchester United won despite the weekend’s only red card given to Marcus Rashford. Liverpool sits atop the table on 12 points with Chelseas and Watford. The defending champions Manchester City, and Spurs round out the top five spots. This weekend the teams take a break as players report for international duty. The league returns on Saturday, September 15th with Tottenham facing Liverpool in the early match.

MLB . The Detroit Tigers topped the Yankees on Sunday 11-7. The Cubs and White Sox were both winners. The Reds beat St. Louis on the road 6-4. Cleveland dropped a game to Tampa 6-4 to round-out the action in the midwest.

Tennis, Volleyball, and Golf Grab CIC Wins

Tribe Sports Report

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 7.36.54 AMMHS Boys Tennis . Coach Fleming and Indians Tennis moved to 2-0 in the CIC by completely shutting out the Blackford Bruins in Hartford City last night. The team did not allow a single game to the Bruins in every competition including the junior varsity event. Overall, the team is 6-3 on the season with a very tough tournament on Saturday.

MHS Volleyball . The Lady Indians defeated Eastbrook last night 3-1, and 2-0 in the junior varsity match. Caily Bolser and Halle Planck had 8 kills in the win. Tyra Stanley (15) and Jenna Berryhill (16) were the assist leaders, and Madison Stanley recorded 47 digs.

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians defeated Frankton last night at Shady Hills 221-243. Maggie LaBarr and Peighten Allen earned medalist honors at 52 for Coach Fleming. Madison Dotterwiech shot 53, Pannell 64, and Abbott 72 to round out the scoring for the Lady Indians.

Boys Soccer . Indians soccer lost to Heritage in Monroesville last night 7-0.

RJB Volleyball . The 7th grade girls opened up the evening at Elwood losing 22-25 and 13-25. The 8th grade team earned a solid victory with 25-6 and 25-5 wins over the Panthers.

RJB Tennis . The boys and girls both lost to McCulloch last night 2-3. The doubles teams of Spencer/Stanley and Smith/Price netted wins for the boys. Fuqua and Bushman captured victories in singles-play for the girls.

Tonight’s Events . The Mississinewa Indians are on the road tonight to visit the Elwood Panthers. Coach Funk and the team are 1-1 after a close defeat to open the season against Pendelton Heights and a huge win at New Haven. The CIC season opens up tonight at 7:00pm.

Saturday’s Events . Volleyball will participate in the Kay Saunders Invitational at Wes-Del starting at 9:00am on Saturday. Boys Tennis also has a big weekend competing in the Ft. Wayne Carroll Invitational. The Indians open play against No. 9 Cathedral in the morning session. Cross Country will run at 9:00am at Indiana Wesleyan against Marion. Girls soccer will travel to Whitko for a 10:00am start. Just a reminder, that the boys soccer game was cancelled against Whitko for this Saturday.

PGA Golf . The Dell Technologies Championship is under-way this morning at the TPC of Boston. Last year’s champion Justin Thomas tees off today.

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up the preseason with a 27-26 win over Cincinnati last night. Phillip Walker was 19-31 for 263 yards, and two touchdowns. Christian Michael had 5 carries for 41 yards.

NCAA Football . On Saturday, September 1st Alabama opens up against Louisville as the preseason number one. Michigan faces Notre Dame at 7:30pm on NBC, and No. 6 Washington will battle No. 9 Auburn at 3:30 on ABC.

MLB . Here are the latest scores from around the midwest in Major League Baseball…
