“We need to get better at the small things, just a few things we need to clean up we need to better disciplined better with making a read with that first step” said head coach Kyle Buresh following a successful scrimmage Friday night. The Indians hosted the Eastern(Greentown) Comets for a scrimmage on Friday night which was a successful learning experience for coach Buresh and the Indians. “Offensively we need to be alert to what the defense is doing so we can make those adjustments, upfront just making sure our blocking schemes are good against any front were going to see along with identifying pressures” said Buresh. Offensively Landry Rock has been doing a great job the past two seasons taking charge and Buresh has been happy with his improvement. “He’s done a great job of taking on his role and being aware of what he needs to do”. Also in the backfield with Rock are two star studded backs in Senior Carson Campbell and Junior Hayden Nelson. “We need to let our running backs roll, they are very special backs I think if we can get those guys out in the open we will be very successful” stated Buresh Friday evening. Meanwhile outside of the individual play the Indian coaching staff was very happy with the energy and focus of the Indian football team. During a scrimmage it could be hard for a lot of teams to buckle down and focus on getting better for the season opener. “I thought our guys just went out and competed they weren’t over thinking the little things, they just went out and played ball and that’s what we need” said Buresh. “I thought we did a great job of tackling in the open field, we need to continue to practice driving our feet stay wrapped up and continue to give up less”. The Indians will travel to Pendleton Heights to open up the regular season next Friday August 20th. “They have a phenomenal coaching staff and a really really good football program, I have nothing but respect for coach Richmond and their program. They’re a bigger 4A program, they play in a really tough conference we are unsure of the guys who will be out there due to them graduating some guys last year. We will go back to the drawing board this week and prepare to take on a very good team” stated Buresh.
