2020 saw a lot of ups and downs for many, COVID-19, cancellations, postponements, limited to no spectators. With all of that the Mississinewa Boys Tennis team saw the positives. Competing hard each day of practice and each day of a match. 2020 saw the Indians take home a CIC championship title, along with being crowned the 2020 Mooresville Invitational Champions. The team finished the season 16-5 in 2020. The 2021 Boys Tennis season is setting up to be a promising season, 5 Seniors with all 5 being 1st team All-CIC the 5 Seniors include John Oliver, Ryan Scott, Riley Fuqua, Ethan Sample, and Hayden Rowley. John Oliver, Ryan Scott, and Riley Fuqua also earned All-District and All-State Honorable Mention. If the Indians can win CIC this season, it will mark 14 consecutive CIC Titles for the Tennis team. The number 1 doubles team of Ryan Scott and Riley Fuqua have their eyes set on what could be a historic season for them. Last season, they were able to accomplish an exceptional season with a record of 20-4 just 3 wins shy of breaking the all time single-season doubles record of 22-5. Both Ryan and Riley could also become the winningest players in Mississinewa Boys Tennis history both less than 20 wins away. This Mississinewa Boys Tennis team have grown up with each other playing tennis together since this seasons Seniors began playing with each other in 5th grade. Keep an eye on the Boys Tennis team as the open up action this coming Thursday at home vs. Lapel in a scrimmage at 5pm.

Meanwhile, Bruce Fleming the head coach has what we all would consider one of the most historic runs as a coach not only in Mississinewa Tennis history but as a Tennis coach in Grant County. Coach Fleming reached 500 career wins back in 2018 and continues to win as a Tennis coach. The legacy and culture that he has built at Mississinewa is something former and current players truly respect and appreciate. The Mississinewa Boys Tennis Seniors have told us “This season is for Coach Fleming”.
