Indians drop opener to Vikes, Girls Hoops hosts Bellmont

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Boys Basketball . The Indians were on the road on Saturday evening in Viking country. Huntington North took an 8 point lead in the first quarter and held the lead until the end. The Indians lost 56-50 on the road. Anthony Horton scored 18 to lead the Indians in their season opener. Landon Swanner added 12 along with 8 from Cade Campbell.  The JV team opened the season with a 45-21 loss to the Vikings. Kreigh Young led the team with 9 points. Mississinewa is on the road Tuesday at Norwell High School in Ossian.

Tonight’s Events . The 4-3 Lady Indians will host Bellmont at 6:00pm. Coach Curt Funk and the Indian Wrestlers travel to Marion at 6:00pm for a season opening match with the Giants.

Tonight’s high school girl’s basketball game will be streamed live on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube provided by TribeTV student-media productions.


Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts defeated Miami on Sunday 27-24. Andrew Luck threw 30-37 for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns. T.Y. Hilton caught 7 passes for 125 yards.

NCAA Football . The big game was the 7-overtime thriller where Texas A&M took down #7 LSU 74-72. #10 Ohio State rolled past #4 Michigan 62-39, and #3 Notre Dame took down rival USC 24-17. Clemson and Alabama walked away in Week 13 with wins as well.

NBA . Indiana travels to Utah tonight with an 11-8 record to face the Jazz. Bojan Bogdanovic is in the spotlight for the Pacers as he averages 15.6 points per game.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The big story this week is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Key games to watch are the Duke Blue Devils taking on the Indiana Hoosiers on Tuesday at 9:30pm (ESPN), and a huge pair of battles on Wednesday pitting Purdue against Florida State while Michigan will take on North Carolina.

NHL . Hockey season is in full swing. Calgary defeated Arizona last night 6-1 while three other games played late.

Soccer . Manchester City sits atop the EPL table after a 4-0 win over West Ham this weekend. David Silva scored the winning goal in the 11th minute. Leroy Sane added a pair in the contest. The Major League Soccer finals played out Sunday night. Portland and Kansas City were tied in the 26th minute at time of publication, while Atlanta defeated New York 3-0.
