LaBarr, Lady Indians Take a Swing at IHSAA Sectionals

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Girls Golf . The Lady Indians competed in the IHSAA Sectional 12 event on Saturday and placed 9th overall. Maggie LaBarr shot a 98 in the team’s total of 441. Anabella Pannell finished the year with a 115. Peighten Allen shot 118, Madison Dotterweich added 110, and Jasmine Horvath shot 128.

MHS Football . Mississinewa Football moved to 4-1 on the season, and 3-0 in the CIC after Saturday’s 58-0 win over Madison Grant at Ball State University. Heisman Skeens accounted for 236 total yards in the win. Cade Campbell had two scoring runs, Drew Castanon caught the opening drive touchdown pass from Skeens and accumulated 52 total yards in the game, and Kyler Funk made a big play on the defensive side of the ball with an interception which he ran back for a touchdown. Here are this week’s team awards:

MHS Boys Tennis . On Saturday, tennis competed in the Homestead Invitational. The Indians came in 7th place under 5 ranked teams. Hayden Rowley was the runner-up at 3-Singles after wins against Concord and Penn. Rowley lost in the finals to a 2nd ranked Homestead opponent. The Indians finish their conference season at Frankton on Wednesday with a push for an undefeated conference season. Overall they are 9-6.

MHS Cross Country . At the Riverview Health Cross Country Invitational this weekend, Brennan Butche finished 3rd with a time of 16:01. Aurora Fisher came in 7th at 20:49, and Raegan Tippey was 28th with a time of 22:08.

RJB Sports . No official results were reported from this weekend’s R.J. Baskett football or volleyball events.

Tonight’s Events . Volleyball takes on the Delta Eagles at 6:00pm here at MHS. JV Football will travel to Madison Grant at 5:30pm to take on the Argylls. RJB Tennis will play McCulloch at Marion High School at 5:00pm, and RJB 6th grade Volleyball will host Oak Hill at 6:00pm at the middle school.

Tonight’s high school volleyball match will be streamed live on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube provided by TribeTV student-media productions.


Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . Indianapolis is now 1-1 with their week two win at Washington 21-9. Andrew Luck had 179 yards on 21 of 31 passes with 2 touchdowns completions. The Colts will face Philadelphia in week three on Sunday at 1:00pm (FOX).

College Football . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Trinity this weekend 80-6 in their third week of the inaugural season. #12 LSU edged out #7 Auburn 22-21. Wisconsin and USC were both upset this weekend. The Badgers sit at #6 right now in the latest poll, and will face undefeated Iowa in week four.

MLB . Detroit defeated Cleveland on Sunday 6-4. Baltimore topped the White Sox 8-4 to round out the only games from around the midwest. The Tigers play the Twins today at 7:10pm, St. Louis faces Atlanta at 7:35pm, and the Reds face Milwaukee at 7:40pm.

PGA Golf . Next up for the tour is the Tour Championship which runs September 20-23 in Atlanta at East Lake Golf Club.

NASCAR . Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag at Las Vegas this weekend in the Monster Energy Cup leading 75 of the racing laps.

Soccer . Liverpool continued their hot start in the EPL with a win over Spurs, but Chelseas sit atop the table on goal differential. The Chicago Fire defeated Orlando in MLS action on Sunday 4-0.
