Tribe Sports Report

547MHS Cross Country . Coach Van Winkle took the Indian runners to the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. The boys finished 9th out of 14 teams while the girls finished 5th out of 11. Brennan Butche won the Red Race in a time of 16:56.7, and Aurora Fisher won the girls race with a time of 22:49.9. Raegan Tippey finished 4th, and Carli Fones came in 16th.

MHS Volleyball . The Lady Indians won the Rossville Invitational on Saturday. No official results were reported.

MHS Boys Tennis . The Indians were rained out on Saturday at Northeastern. That boys tennis match has yet to be given a rescheduled date.

MHS Girls Golf . Grant Four at Arbor Trace was postponed due to rain. Golfers will resume tournament play today on the north side of Marion.

Senior Heisman Skeens rushed for two touchdowns and completed a scoring pass to Junior Drew Castanon. Cade Campbell had two rushing touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions, and on defense recovered a fumble. Andre Sallade kicked four extra points.

RJB Cross Country . No official results were reported from the RJB cross country team.

RJB Tennis . The Junior Indians tennis match with Shenandoah was cancelled on Saturday.

RJB Volleyball . No official results were reported from the RJB volleyball event.

Tonight’s Events . Boys tennis will travel to Alexandria tonight at 4:30pm to take on the Tigers. Girls Golf will compete at the rain-postponed Grant Four today at Arbor Trace tentatively slated to start at 4:30pm. Girls Soccer will face the Tipton Blue Devils on the road starting at 5:00pm. The 9th grade and JV football teams will host Eastbrook tonight starting at 6:00pm. Volleyball will take on Eastern at home starting at 6:00pm. This game was moved from the September 24th date.


Today’s Sports World Update

NFL . The Indianapolis Colts opened the season with a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals 34-23. Andrew Luck was the bright spot for the Colts. He threw 39 of 53 with 319 yards including two touchdowns. In week two, Indianapolis will be in Washington to face the Redskins at FedEx Field on Sunday at 1:00pm (CBS).

NCAA Football . The top 25 went as scripted this past weekend for the most part. #15 Michigan State fell to Arizona State 16-13, and the Kentucky Wildcats upset #25 Florida 27-16. Ball State turned some heads as well hanging with #8 Notre Dame. The Cardinals ended up losing 24-16.

NASCAR . The Monster Energy Cup was postponed on Sunday, and will run today at 2:00pm at the Brickyard in Indianapolis. Race fans can watch live on the NBC Sports Network.

PGA Golf . Justin Rose leads at the BMW Championship in Newton Square. Rose is 17-under through three rounds. Tiger Woods is 12-under with some tough competition between Rose and himself, as round four starts today.

MLB . The Cleveland Indians lost 6-2 to the Blue Jays. St. Louis defeated the Tigers 5-2. The White Sox were edged-out 1-0 by the Angels. The Cincinnati Reds lost to San Diego 7-5, and the Cubs were postponed in their game with the Nationals.

Soccer . The UEFA Nations League is the focus of the international break. Portugal faces Italy today at 2:45pm in the spotlight match on ESPN Plus. On Tuesday, Spain will face Croatia in one of seven UEFA matches. The United States will face Mexico in an international friendly on ESPN on Tuesday at 8:30pm.
