Tribe Sports Report

MHS Volleyball . The Lady Indians competed in the Kay Saunders Tournament at Wes-Del on Saturday. Mississinewa defeated Tipton but lost to Wes-Del. No official results were submitted to the media.

MHS Boys Tennis . Coach Fleming and the Indians competed at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational on Saturday. Mississinewa lost 5-0 to No. 9 Cathedral, No. 15 Concord, and Canterbury. The team’s record is now 6-6 on the season with Maconaquah next on the season.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 7.39.10 AMMHS Cross Country . Brennan Butche ran 15:56.9 in the Elite Race at the Marion Invitational on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan. That was good enough for a 3rd place finish. The boys competed in the Purple (big school) Race and finished 4th out of 11 teams. Raven Fisher (20), Colin Coffey (23), Jon Alsup (24), Jacob Ehmer (27), and Zak Huffman (33) were all medalists.

The girls ran in the same category and placed 6th out of 9 teams. Aurora Fisher finished 4th. Carli Fones (20) and Raegan Tippey (26) were the medalists for the Lady Indians.

MHS Girls Soccer . The Lady Indians won their first match of the season on Saturday at Whitko 4-1. Beth Lucas recorded a hat trick, and Taylor Ulerick added the fourth goal for the Lady Indians.

MHS Football . The Indians defeated Elwood on Friday 62-7. Heisman Skeens ran the opening touchdown back for a touchdown. Skeens rushed for another TD, and passed for two scores. Cade Campbell had four touchdowns on the game, and Carson Campbell added two. Junior Kyler Funk recovered a fumble on defense.

Tonight’s Events . RJB and MHS cross country fire up the week with a race tonight at Oak Hill starting at 4:30pm. Girls golf will host Alexandria at Shady Hills at 5:00pm. RJB football will travel with the junior varsity Indians to Elwood tonight. The junior high game will be at 5:30pm followed by the JV at 7:00pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

PGA Golf . Bryson DeChambeau shot 16-under to edge out Justin Rose by two strokes at the Dell Technologies Championship this weekend. Tiger Woods shot 7-under.

NFL . On Thursday, the NFL season enters week one of the 2018 season as the Atlanta Falcons travel to Philadelphia. The season kicks-off at 8:30pm on NBC. The Colts will host Cincinnati on Sunday at 1:00pm in their season opener.

NCAA Football . Wisconsin, Michigan State, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, and No. 1 Alabama were among the winners in week one of the NCAA Football season. No. 9 Auburn defeated No. 6 Washington 21-16 in perhaps the toughest match-up of the weekend. Indiana Wesleyan lost the historic “First Game” at Wildcat Stadium to the Taylor Trojans.

Premiere League Soccer . Manchester United won despite the weekend’s only red card given to Marcus Rashford. Liverpool sits atop the table on 12 points with Chelseas and Watford. The defending champions Manchester City, and Spurs round out the top five spots. This weekend the teams take a break as players report for international duty. The league returns on Saturday, September 15th with Tottenham facing Liverpool in the early match.

MLB . The Detroit Tigers topped the Yankees on Sunday 11-7. The Cubs and White Sox were both winners. The Reds beat St. Louis on the road 6-4. Cleveland dropped a game to Tampa 6-4 to round-out the action in the midwest.
