Girls Tennis in Championship, Softball drops two to Vikings

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians marched into the sectional championship last night by defeating the Marion Giants at Marion High School 3-2. Mississinewa had trouble at the start, but the team rallied to support each other in a come-back effort. Haleigh Rowley, Heidi Rowley, and Tyra Stanley served up wins to place the Lady Indians in the championship event tonight against the Madison Grant Argylls. The team is now 14-2 through season and tournament play.

MHS Softball . Mississinewa lost 5-2 to Huntington North last night after the Lady Vikings big fourth inning which finished Cierra Vasquez’ night. Vasquez pitched 4 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2 batters. Jenna Berryhill came in and tried to help out the team, but the Lady Indians ran out of time at the plate. Madison Stanley went 3-3 with a home run. Amaya David was 1-2, and Shelby Goble went 1-3 with an RBI.

JV Softball lost for the first time all season last night 5-3 at Huntington. Ireland Thien took the loss on the mound giving up 3 hits and 4 walks with 8 strikeouts. At the plate, Thien, Herring, and Hickman added a hit for the Lady Indians.

Tonight’s Events . Boys Track & Field will compete in the Indiana Wesleyan IHSAA Sectional tonight starting at 5:30pm. Softball will travel to Eastern, as their JV squad will host Northwestern. JV Baseball plays at Kokomo, and RJB Softball will host Western at 5:30pm. Mississinewa will host the JV Baseball and Softball Grant Four events this weekend starting at 9:00am on Saturday.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Houston Rockets took Game Two last night in Texas 127-105. James Harden scored 27 for the Rockets while Kevin Durant added 38 in the Warriors effort. The Series is now tied 1-1. Conference Finals will continue this weekend with the East playing on Saturday followed by the West on Sunday.

NHL . The Golden Knights went up 2-1 in their series with the Winnipeg Jets last night with a 4-2 win. Five players had 2 points while Marc Andre Fleury added 33 saves. Tampa Bay and Washington continue their series tonight on NBC Sports at 8:00pm as the Capitals are up 2-1.

PGA Golf . The AT&T Byron Nelson tournament began today at Trinity Forest in Dallas. Billy Horschel is the defending champion. The first group teed off at 8:00am. The featured groups including Horschel began play at 8:45am.

NASCAR . The Cup Series will be at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday for an evening race in the Monster Energy Open. Racing begins at 6:00pm on Fox Sports One.

Indy Car . The Indianapolis 500 is a week and a half away as the flag will drop at noon on Sunday, May 27. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is expecting a tremendous crowd yet again as the points leader Josef Newgarden and last year’s winner Takumo Sato of Andretti Autosport roll in to town.
