Golf wins The Paddle, Softball sweeps the Panthers, RJB Soccer over Eastbrook

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians defeated Elwood 11-7 last night. Cierra Vasquez allowed 6 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts. Jenna Berryhill helped out on the mound shutting out the Panthers and giving up only 2 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts. Madison Stanley hit a deep shot over center field for the Lady Indians only home run of the evening. Stanley went 3-4 at the plate with 4 RBIs. Lexi Cruzan was 3-5 with a double and 2 RBIs, and Darcie Patton went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBIs to round out the top performances for the varsity team.

The JV Lady Indians also defeated Elwood 5-4 in 3 innings. The game was called due to darkness. Kandis Downam got the win on the mound as Ireland Thien helped out with a the save. Madison Dotterweich was 1-1 with 2 RBIs, Ireland Thien was also 1-1, and Katie Hosier went 1-2 with 2 RBIs.

MHS Baseball . Mississinewa lost 14-1 on the road at Elwood in 5 innings after the Panthers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Landen Swanner was credited with the loss pitching 2.1 innings on 2 hits, 8 runs, and 5 walks. Tyler Jakob and Hunter Smalley also made appearances on the mound. Jalen Martin was 1-3 with a double at the plate, and Cade McCoin went 1-2 for the Indians only two hits of the game. Easton Burton was credited with Mississinewa’s only RBI.

MHS Boys Golf . Breyton Berryhill, Justin Dakin, Bryce Luedtke, and AJ Cragun won in the 3rd annual Mississinewa-Eastbrook Match-Play event. The Indians secured the team victory 4.5-2.5, moving to 7-0 on the season. The team also gained control over the traveling “Paddle” for the first time.

RJB Soccer . The Junior Indians defeated the Eastbrook Girls side 5-0 last night. Williams netted 2 goals for RJB. Jones, Cook, and Luchetti found the back of the net as well.

Tonight’s Events . Softball travels to Heritage while the JV team stays home to host Heritage at 5:00pm. Track and Field will compete at the Madison Grant Relays starting at 5:00pm. RJB Golf takes on McCulloch at Shady Hills with a 5:00pm tee time, and RJB Softball travels to Eastern for a 5:30pm first pitch.

Saturday’s Events . Boys Golf will compete on Saturday at the Northfield Invitational as Softball travels to Snider for a double-header starting at 9:00am. JV Baseball will take on Bluffton at 10:00am followed by the varsity Indians taking on Wabash around noon. RJB Track and Field will compete at the Marion Invitational at 10:00am. RJB Baseball rounds out the weekend’s events with a game at Eastbrook starting at noon.

PGA Tour . John Peterson leads the field on day two of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte. Rory McIlroy is three strokes back after a hot start yesterday. Tiger Woods shot an opening round 71.

NBA . The Cleveland Cavaliers won in Toronto last night 128-110 to lead the series 2-0. Lebron James scored 43 points in the win for the Cavs. Duke graduate Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics to a 108-103 win over the 76ers. Tatum scored 21 points in Boston. Tonight the Warriors face the Pelicans in game three at 8:00pm on ESPN. Utah will host Houston in a tied series at 10:30pm.

NASCAR . On Sunday, the Monster Energy Series will race at Dover International Speedway. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Fox Sports One.

NHL . Pittsburgh won 3-1 over Washington in the NHL playoffs last night to even the series at 2-2. Nashville had 6 players with a point in a 2-1 win over Winnipeg. That series is also tied at 2-2. Tonight, Tampa Bay faces Boston with a 2-1 lead at 7:00pm on the NBC Sports Network followed by San Jose at Vegas in a pivotal game five.

MLB . Here are the latest scores from the midwest in Major League Baseball…

  • Toronto Blue Jays 13-11 Cleveland Indians (Game One of DH)
  • Cleveland Indians 13-4 Toronto Blue Jays (Game Two of DH)
  • Kansas City Royals 10-6 Detroit Tigers
