Lady Indians sweep the CIC, Boys Golf balanced attack, and Baseball battles Eagles

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Cheerleading . There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in cheering on Wednesday, May 2nd or Thursday, May 3rd. Both available meetings will be held at 5:30pm in the Mississinewa High School cafeteria.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Lady Indians defeated Madison Grant last night 5-0 as Haleigh Rowley won 6-0, 6-0 at 1-Singles. Mississinewa is 7-1 overall, and they are 2-0 in the CIC heading into the Homestead Invitational on Saturday. First serve is at 8:30am.

MHS Baseball . Coach Scott and the Indians hosted Oak Hill last night. Mississinewa lost 3-0 with Landon Swanner on the mound. Swanner pitched 7 innings allowing 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Hunter Smalley, Easton Burton, and Cade McCoin were 1-3 at the plate.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians swept the Oak Hill Eagles last night. The varsity team won 12-8 as Cierra Vasquez earned the win allowing 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Vasquez struck out 2 before allowing Jenna Berryhill to pick up the save. Aubrey Tann went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, Riley McKee was 3-5 with 2 RBIs, and Lexi Cruzan finished 2-5 with 2 RBIs to round out the big plate performances of the night.

The junior varsity team remains undefeated with that 9-1 win over Oak Hill last night in five innings. Ireland Thien gave up only 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 11 to get the win. Katie Hosier went 3-3 with a double, triple, and 3 RBIs.

MHS Boys Golf . Mississinewa Boys Golf defeated Oak Hill 174-183. Josh Dakin shot a 41 to lead the Indians while Ty Corey and Breyton Berryhill shot 43. Bryce Luedtke added a 47.

RJB Track & Field . From Coach Van Winkle, the Boys Track team competed against Eastbrook last night at Mississinewa High School. RJB lost 63-37 to the Junior Panthers. Peyton McPeak won the 110m hurdles, 200m, and was part of the first place 4x400m relay. Zach Luchetti, Konner Ricks, and Ty Newsom rounded out that relay team. Seth Workman won the high jump and long jump.

Tonight’s Events . Track and Field is the center of attention tonight as Mississinewa will host the 2018 Grant Four. Events will begin at 5:00pm

Saturday’s Events . Girls Tennis will travel to Homestead at 8:30am for a tough invitational. Softball and Baseball will compete at Oak Hill for the Grant Four title. Softball action begins at 9:00am while Baseball will start at 10:00am. Boys Golf will compete in the Taylor High School Invitational and tee off at 11:00am. RJB Baseball has a double header at Hamilton Heights beginning at 11:00am. Finally, the RJB Track & Field team will compete in the junior high CIC meet at Madison Grant. Events at Fairmount start at 10:00am.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Indiana Pacers host the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round. That game can be seen on ESPN at 8:00pm.

NHL . Pittsburgh took a 3-2 win over Washington. Jake Guentzel had 3 points with a goal and 2 assists. Matt Murray took in 32 saves. Las Vegas crushed the San Jose Sharks 7-0 with 3 separate players earning 3 points. Mar Andre Fleury pulled 33 saves in the net. Winnipeg and Nashville kick-off their playoff series tonight at 8:00pm on the NBC Sports Network.

MLB . Here are the latest scores from the midwest in Major League Baseball…

PGA Tour . 12 under par is the current score to beat in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the TPC of Louisiana. 10 groups are battling at the top entering Day Two of the competition.

NASCAR . On Sunday, April 29th the Monster Energy Cup launches at Talladega Super Speedway. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Fox. Kyle Busch leads the points standings with Kevin Harvick close behind.
