Invitational Title, Meet Record, and Double-Header Results

Tribe Sports Report

MHS Track & Field . In case you missed the great result from Friday at Twin Lakes, the Mississinewa Boys team won the Relays event with five first place finishes out of 12. Cory Quakenbush and Elijah Standridge were on three winning relay teams.  The Distance Medley Relay set a new meet record that was over three decades old. Quakenbush, Standridge, Jacob Ehmer, and Brennan Butche set the new mark at 8:26.59. The boys team also won the high jump, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, and the sprint medley. The girls placed fifth. The only first place finish of the evening came in the sprint medley with a time of 1:41.58 set by Beth Lucas, Haleigh Skeens, Alayna Webb, and Carli Fones.

MHS Softball . The Lady Indians traveled to Logansport on Saturday for a double-header. Mississinewa won the first game 14-7 and lost the second game 7-2. Jenna Berryhill struck-out 10 batters and walked 6 in the first game. Cierra Vasquez had 8 strikeouts on 3 walks in game two. Riley McKee was 7-8 on the day with 2 RBIs. Darcie Patton hit a home run and went 2-7 with 4 RBIs. The JV squad swept Logansport 11-1 and 11-10. Ireland Thien threw 13 innings giving up 8 hits while striking out 16 and walking 3. Thien and Dotterweich both had home runs on the day.

MHS Baseball . Mississinewa swept the Bluffton Tigers 14-4 and 10-0 in a double-header on Saturday. Hunter Smalley and Landon Swanner pitched wins for the Indians. Collin Yoder went 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 6 RBIs in game one. Easton Burton was consistent on the day going 4-6 with a double and 2 RBIs between both games.

MHS Boys Golf . The Indians won the Eastbrook Invitational on Saturday by 14 strokes, shooting a 325. Mississinewa is 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in tournament action. Ty Corey shot a 78 to earn 3rd place, Breyton Berryhill placed 5th with an 80, and Josh Dakin placed 8th with an 81.

MHS Girls Tennis . The Singles stayed strong for the Lady Indians on Saturday as the team defeated Manchester 4-1. Gabby Stephenson and Abigail Tignor won on the first doubles court to help secure the win. The JV team lost 3-0. Mississinewa is now 5-1 with a match in Muncie tonight.

RJB Sports . No results were reported from R.J. Baskett this weekend.

Tonight’s Events . JV Baseball faces Maconaquah on the road at 5:00pm. JV Softball will face the Raiders of Wapahani on the road at 5:00pm. Girls Tennis travels to Ball State to take on Muncie Burris at 5:30pm. For R.J. Baskett, the Junior Indian Golfers will host Maconaquah at Shady Hills at 5:00pm. RJB Softball travels to Tipton for a 5:30pm first pitch, and RJB Soccer hosts Western at 6:00pm at the high school. Don’t forget that the MHS Boys Golf meet with Elwood was moved until tomorrow evening with a tee time of 4:30pm.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Cavaliers tied the series 2-2 in Game Four against the Pacers with a 104-100 win. Domantis Sabonis scored 19 points for the Pacers in the loss. Lebron James again led the Cavs with 32. Game 5 will be Wednesday on TNT.

NASCAR . Kyle Busch won the Cup Series race at Richmond on Saturday. This moves Busch to 415 in the points standings well atop the leader board.

PGA Tour . Andrew Landry wrapped up the win on Sunday at the Valero Texas Open at -17 under par and a final round 68 winning roughly $1.2 million and earning 500 FedEx points. Next weekend is the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the TPC Louisiana.

NHL . The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated Philadelphia 8-5 on Sunday to clinch the series 4-2. The Nashville Predators also won 5-0 defeating Colorado to secure their series 4-2. Tonight the Bruins take on Toronto up 3-2 going into game six, and Washington takes a 3-2 lead into tonight’s game at Columbus.

MLB . Here are the latest scores from the midwest in Major League Baseball…
