Tribe Sports Report
MHS Boys Basketball . The Mississinewa Boys Basketball team fell short of it’s first sectional title since 1954 on Saturday, losing to Marion 57-54 in an amazing game. Jerod May led the Indians with 21 points, breaking the 1000 point mark with his final three-point attempt of the night as he was being fouled. Anthony Horton also had a big night with 18 points.
MHS Track & Field . The Indians opened up a pair of Indoor Track Meets at IWU this past weekend. Brennan Butche won the 3200m (9:30.86) with a school record. The 4x200m boys team of Quakenbush, Sallade, Standridge, and Mead placed 4th (1:38.36). Carli Fones won the 60m dash (8.19). Beth Lucas placed 10th (10.68) in the 60m hurdles. The girls 4x200m of Lucas, Webb, Hasty, and Fones placed 9th (2:01.80). Finally, the girls 4x400m of Fones, Webb, Lucas, and Dawson placed 8th (4:47.67). The Indians return to IWU for another Indoor Meet this Saturday.
This Week’s Events . The 6th grade basketball season continues with several contests this week. RJB wrestling reaches the midpoint of their season. Today’s Sports World Update
MLB . Opening Day is quickly approaching as all teams will play on Thursday, March 29th. This is the first time since 1968 that every MLB team will open on the same day. The Cubs open at Miami, Houston at Texas, St. Louis at the Mets, the Royals will host the White Sox, and the fully-stocked Yankees will travel to Toronto just to name a few of the match-ups from day one.
NASCAR . Kevin Harvick makes it two in a row in Las Vegas this weekend to claim the points leadership.
NBA . The Pacers host the Bucks tonight after defeating the Wizards last night 98-95. Victor Oladipo scored 33 points for Indiana.
NCAA Men’s Basketball . #15 Michigan defeated #8 Purdue 75-66 to claim the Big Ten title for the second straight year. Moritz Wagner scored 17 points to lead the Wolverines. Isaac Haas had 23 points for Purdue.
NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Butler Lady Bulldogs lost in the Big East quarterfinals to Marquette 73-61. #5 Notre Dame battled #4 Louisville, but the Irish lost 74-72 in the ACC Women’s Final.
