Boys Hoops battles at Norwell, Track fires up for IWU

There will be a Golf Call-Out Meeting today, March 2nd at Mississinewa High School in The Pit immediately after school. If there are questions or concerns please contact Coach James Reed prior to the meeting.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Mississinewa Indians Basketball Survived on Tuesday, battling tooth-and-nail the entire game against Heritage. Jerod May had the ball with 15 seconds on the clock and time counting down. May got a screen from Thabit Gault then drove inside, and he scored his 4th point of the game propelling the Indians past the Patriots 33-32. Tonight Coach Evertts and the team travel back to Norwell High School, but this time to take on Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. Bishop Luers comes into the matchup with only winning one game and having a record of 1-20. Meanwhile, The Indians come in with a 15-8 record. Jerod May comes into tonight’s matchup just 27 points away from 1000 career points. Elsewhere in Sectional 23 fans have Grant County rival Marion taking on the host of Sectional 23 Norwell on their home floor. Marion and Norwell will play at 6:00pm followed by Mississinewa and Bishop Luers to tip-off at approximately 7:30pm. This Weekend . RJB Wrestling travels to Frankfort on Saturday at 9:30am. MHS Track and Field will compete in an Indoor Meet at Indiana Wesleyan. Events begin at 9:00am for the Indians.


Today’s Sports World Update

NBA . The Pacers play in Milwaukee tonight at 8:00pm. The teams split the first two meetings. Indiana is one game ahead of Milwaukee in the Central standings. Both teams have lost their last two games.

NASCAR . The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for the third race of the season. Headed into Las Vegas their are three drivers who are favored to win this weekend’s race. Kyle Larson in the Credit One Bank, Chip Gnassi Racing #42 Chevrolet, last week’s winner Kevin Harvick in the Tony Stewart Racing, Jimmy Johns, Ford Performance #4, and the last favored driver is Kyle Busch in the M & M’s, Joe Gibbs Racing #18. Toyota Cup Series Qualifying is scheduled to roll off around 4:15pm today.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . A solid first for Archie Miller and the Indiana Hoosiers ended last night in the BIG10 Tournament. The Hoosiers met with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and things seemed to be going well early in the game for the Hoosiers before a Scarlet Knight 16-2 run to bring the lead back to 3. At the halftime break Rutgers led IU 29-28. Rutgers led most of the second half but IU was step for step with them. Indiana could not contain Corey Sanders. Sanders led the Scarlet Knights to victory over the Hoosiers 76-69, He scored 28 points on 12-20 shooting from the floor. Purdue now faces Rutgers tonight at 9:00pm on the Big Ten Network. Ball State faces Northern Illinois tonight at 8:00pm on ESPN3.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . Rutgers defeated the Lady Boilermakers last night 62-60, and Indiana won 111-109 over Michigan State in the Women’s Big Ten Tournament. #5 Notre Dame takes on Virginia tonight at 6:00pm on the ACC Network in the Quarterfinals of the Women’s ACC Tournament.

NAIA Men’s BasketballGreg Tonagel and the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats earned a #1 Seed in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship. The Wildcats will take on #8 Seed Antelope Valley (California) in the opening round of the 32-team tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Wildcats play at 1:00pm Eastern Time on Thursday, March 8th.
