Funk advances, Indians win, and RJB claims titles

Tribe Sports Report

Just a reminder that Coach Arbogast and the MHS Track and Field team will be holding a call-out meeting on Tuesday, February 6 at 2:40pm in the Pit at MHS. See Coach Arbogast with any questions.

MHS Wrestling. Courtland Scott and Skylar Tackett wrestled well at the Peru Regional on Saturday, but will not advance with Kyler Funk. Kyler placed third and will represent Mississinewa this upcoming weekend in the Ft. Wayne Semi-State. The mat opens at 9:00am on Saturday at the Ft. Wayne Coliseum. Good luck Kyler and Coach Funk.

MHS Boys Basketball . The Junior Varsity team defeated Delta on Saturday 55-47 to move to 13-3 on the season. Collin Yoder led the way with 15 points. Coach Evertts and the Indians finished the afternoon by completing the sweep of the Eagles, winning 56-45. The Indians have now won six in a row. Thabit Gault led the Indians with 21 points. Freshman Landon Swanner scored 13 points. Mississinewa faces Marion at Bill Green Arena on Tuesday. Fans can catch the action on MCSC Athletic’s YouTube provided by TribeTV.

DVJnu_sVQAEGe4QRJB Boys Basketball . The Junior Indians brought home two titles on Saturday from the Maconaquah Tournament. The 7th grade team started the day with a championship followed by a great performance by Dakota Ancil (30 points, 12 rebounds) to lead the 8th grade squad to a second title on the day.

DVIP_O9VoAA1limRJB Girls Basketball . The 7th grade Girls Basketball team earned their first CIC title in school history by defeating Alexandria 19-12. Lia Luchetti had 9 points to lead the young Lady Indians. Congratulations to Coach Kimes and the team for setting this historical mark for R.J. Baskett Middle School.

DVJoAiXVoAAEvsyTonight’s Events . RJB 6th grade Boys Basketball will travel to Oak Hill at 6:00pm to battle the Eagles. This game will be played at Swayzee.


Today’s Sports World Update

r323844_608x342_16-9NFL . The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 52 over the New England Patriots 41-33. Nick Foles was crowned the MVP after going 28-43 for 373 yards with 3 touchdowns. Tom Brady had 505 yards in the Patriots loss as a couple late drives were halted by the Eagles defense.

NBA . The Indiana Pacers play tonight against the Wizards at 7:00pm. Both teams are having a similar season at 30 wins each.

NCAA Men’s Basketball . The Indiana Hoosiers face Rutgers tonight at 7:00pm. The 12-12 Hoosiers can be watched on the Big Ten Network.

NCAA Women’s Basketball . The Lady Hoosiers defeated Northwestern in overtime 78-73 over the weekend. Purdue defeated Illinois 73-54, Butler lost to Seton Hall 75-64, and #5 Notre Dame beat a tough Duke team ranked at #19, 72-54 to round out local women’s college basketball.

NAIA Basketball . Indiana Wesleyan defeated Huntington 100-73 on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats game with Huntington was a little bit closer but IWU won 67-64. Taylor University won 93-73 over Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Lady Trojans won big as well, defeating Mount Vernon 90-53. Taylor faces the Wildcats on Tuesday as the Lady Trojans will travel to Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 7:00pm tip in each competition.
